bang noise when applying or coming off the power
Discussion
Does it sound like a mechanical noise, rather than an explosive noise?
There are several places a mechanical noise could come from, for instance:
Slack in one of the drive train components for instance (mine had worn output shaft bearings, rear drive shafts and CV joints which all got replaced).
Worn or broken diff bush (these do fail)
Engine / gearbox mount (so do these)
You'd really need to get under it and start investigating to find out more.
Cheers,
FT.

The exhaust pipes make muffled (or loud if the yare sleeved) pops n bangs, which is quite normal.
You don't usually get a bang when you put your foot down, but you do when you come off the power. I think this is due to unburnt fuel in the system?
Open the window and if it is the exhaust it should be a lot louder.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies so far.
I would say a mechanical noise. I've had the car up on the ramps but couldn't find anything lose.
I did notice that my gearbox casing had hit something... My friend said that my gearbox liquid could be low but could that causing the knock side when the power is applied and let off..
Maybe it is the gearbox or engine mount that has broke ?

Do you know what you're looking for? Because unless something's actually falling off, you're unlikely to see the problem just by looking. From your description I guess you have a lot of backlash in the transmission and you are getting a clonk when this is taken up. This might simply be internal wear in the gearbox/diff/CVs/UJs, but could also be a worn bush or loose mounting for the engine or diff. Either of these should be attended to immediately as you can do a lot of damage very quickly if things are moving around under load.I've had the car up on the ramps but couldn't find anything lose.
shake n bake,
Have you replaced these your self in the past ? Do you have any tips about removing the top bushe ? . I'm going to let a friend with ramps replace them for me. He said that the two side bushes look easy enough but the top bushe looks like the mount is welded to the chassis.
Cheers
Andy

This is the top bushe retaining bracket, it is definitely not welded on to the chassis, when my car was in TVR Power I watched the mechanic change mine and let me tell you, it's not an easy 5 min job and I wouldn't fancy doing it off a pair of ramps as the diff has to be cajoled back into position. On mine the bush was stuck fast into bracket so a new one was required.
Good luck

Thanks D14 AYS for the reply.
You say that you watch the bush being replaced, Did they drop the rear diff completely out for this ? Did you have all three replaced?
How many hours did yours take to replace ? i've been quoted 3-4 hrs by Fernies
Cheers
Andy
P.S when I said ramps I mean ' 4 Post Car Ramp Lift 3 Tonne '

I only had the top bush changed as that was the only one needed, prop gets undone and removed if i recall, diff stays in,2 hours i think but well worth it to get rid of that clonk
