Scuttle cover

Has anyone got a good scheme to glue the window rubber to the windscreen...what type of adhesive to use?? I've tried loads of types and nothing seems to touch this rubber, just peels off. I guess having done this refitting the scuttle requires carefully feeding the edge into he groove in the rubber...right ? Or does anyone have a better method. Seems that this cover is going to be on-and-off lots in the life of this car ! There must be a better way surely

I was told in a previous post to use something called Sikaflex. You can buy it on e-bay. I had a similar problem on the top of the Windscreen seal, nothing seemed to hold it in place especially on the motorway! I haven't tried it yet but if it works I'll let you know..........

Stikaflex is used by the bodyshop guys. When I had a supra and put a GT kit on it stikaflex was sugested and lets just say it sticks like bown stuff to a blanket there was no way in hell of it comming off again.

Some is the wisdom to stick the scuttle rubber to the glass and then just poke the scuttle into the rubber strip but not glue it...so it is easy to take out next time ?

my scuttle rubber is stuck to the scuttle. So when I remove the scuttle the rubber comes with it. It's just the ends(the last inch) that need a small touch of evostick when I put it back on to stick them to the base of the windscreen. I thought they were all like that.

So, I ended up trimming the U shaped channel off the back of the rubber so that the whole back face was nice and level. Then roughed up the surface with very coarse sand paper. Fitted the scuttle in place and then fitted the rubber in the right place with masking tape. You can then kind of "pop" it inside out long enough to apply a bead of SikaFlex just under the rubber on the glass. Then pop it back the right way and smooth it out a bit to re-distribute the sealant...not too hard...so that it only bonds the rubber to the glass, doesnt squish under the cover.

Once its cured (1 day) it works great...rubber stays put, and after I remove the 2 bonnet catches & wipers (of course!) I can simply tip the cover up and slide it out from under the rubber, or vice-versa.

Shame I scuffed the damn wing putting the bonnet back ! Might be a winter project to hinge that as per some other threads.
