Just Decatted my Car ! How Loud ....

I can't believe how loud the car is !!

My car has full sleeved cans and NTEL's de-cat pipes.

Has anyone been pulled by police for having a too loud Tuscan ?

You shouldn't have any problems Andy. Just got to be a bit easy on the loud pedal sometimes.

Mines decatted and i recently sleeved the exhausts. Took it a mile up the road and back and was shocked by the noise. As soon as the exhaust cooled I took out the SS pipe - it was just too loud. Made me think of a hotted up Saxo with a huge big bore exhuast, not for me I'm afraid.

If anyone wants to buy the SS tube cut to length PM me.

Think I'll go for CCC's like I had on my previous Tuscan

Don't De-cat you TVR this does very little to the car, except a lot of noise . And no performance gains to be had no matter what some say .And also no track days in some cases ether, Sorry

Does it have an adverse effect on the car?

decat was done by the previous owner. I have the cats in the garage so can refit them if necessary

If you get CCC's it will be just as loud. Why not cut your sleeves in half and put them back in. You will end up with a quieter (although not too quiet) exhaust and a deeper tone

Hmm good suggestion might be worth investigating.

As I say my previous Tuscan had CCC's and they sounded great but it hadn't been decatted. I'm looking for the same sound without shelling out for the CCC's unless I have to - would rather put the money towards a suspension upgrade

CCC's are a hollow straight through can. I made my own cans with 1/3 perforation and fully packed with ceramic blanket. They sound good and not too loud. They measured 105 dba at Oulton Park not long ago (decatted) so track days are no problem.

actually NTEL, do your decats look similar to mine? These were from Peninsula TVR in 2006.

Maybe at first glance, but I don't know how to make them that rough



Mine have a smooth bore welded with an argon back purge and the mating flange also has an internal taper. They are polished, manufactured from 304L stainless steel (except the mating flange which is quality carbon steel), and the cone is a slightly different shape.

Install was a easy as 123... I gave your instruction to my mate to fit for me

He had a problem a one of the cats clamps was rusty and a bolt broke off but he managed to repair/mod the clamp so it would work.

The noise over 2500 rpm is like a fighter plane taking off

The reason I decatted the car was due to one of my cats starting to break up and this was my quickest option + £400 saving on new cats.

I've just tested mine today actually (decat + CCC pipes). Inside the cabin it measured:

70db at idle
80-95db gentle driving around town
max was 102db at 1/4 throttle and 3500 rpm (still running in)

I'd hate to think how loud it would be if I really nailed it, so the cats are going back in very soon. I even had a mate comment that they found it too loud to follow me with their windows open!

Mine is de-catted, and i have to admit to not experiencing being in a catted version, but its not too noisy at all, IMHO.
But, my ovur half does say i am deaf!

I cannot believe there is no performance gain, i had 92 Escort cossie decatted, and the difference was amazing, mind you, we are talking about TVR Cats here
