Tuscan carpet

I'm considering putting some second hand but excellent condition carpets into my tuscan. Can anyone think of any issues I may encounter fitting them. I'm thinking they should be more or less a good fit, shouldn't they!

Has the other carpet been removed from it's car yet?

It's very difficult (impossible in my case) not to damage the carpet slightly during removal, I found that some of the pile stays glued to the car & pulls through the carpet backing.

Fitting is easy enough. Just make sure you've got lots of spray contact adhesive & acetone to remove any excess.

If you're going to the trouble of changing the carpet, I'd recommend adding some soundproofing to the floor pan/transmission tunnel/rear bulkhead/shelf. I used dynamat & stinger stuff on mine & it's made a massive difference. Not cheap (although I've read that you can get roofing material that's similar but a fraction of the cost) but well worth it.

The carpet has been removed from the other car but I haven't bought it yet. I will check that it came out in one piece without any damage before buying it.
The soundproofing sounds like a good idea although I do like the noise of the CC's

look for small (5 -10 p coin sized) bald spots in the carpet.

Soundproofing won't lose the noise of the exhaust, in fact I've found mine - standard cans - sounds louder as it's not fighting for your attention with the transmision & road noise.

I've just ordered a pack of Dynamat, and will be re-trimming the interior over the winter. Just waiting for the Dynamat to arrive.

Any tips on fitting it, greatly appreciated.

Also will be re-trimming the interior........Any ideas for the best place to purchase a complete set of new carpets & trim

I refitted my old carpet (most of the bald spots after removal were thankfully under the seats or beneath joins).

Tips for Dynamat: Buy double what you think you'll need! Get the aluminium foil backed type (dynamat extreme) as it sticks/forms into contours much better. Push it into joins & corners with a hammer handle with a rag wound around the end, don't bother buying a roller to stick it down.

Rear shelf & wheel arches= 2 sheets.

Trans tunnel = 3 or 4 sheets depending how far forwards you go.

Bulkheads behind seats = 1 sheet each.

Bulkhead behind shelf = 1 sheet.

Footwells = 1 1/2 or 2 sheets each.

Doors = 1 sheet each.

Wheel arches & sills inside 'B' pillars = 1 can of dynamat spray.

1 or 2 sheets for Mum & that should cover you unless you want to do the front bulkhead (which I didn't as I thought it would be a nightmare of epic proportions to remove the dash).

If you've any intentions of an audio upgrade that involves runing power/signal/speaker cable thru' the car, now's the time to do it as you won't want to pull the interior out twice!

I really recommed fitting dyanamat or similar, makes the car feel much more solid & of a higher quality. If you're going for any sort of serious audio in the car I think it's a must.

Yep.........I ordered it direct from dynamat in the USA via their web site. Ordered the Dynamat Extreme Bulk Pack, at $310 dollars, which is very roughly £150 (Works out cheaper than buying it in the UK even with p&p). Should be here any day soon. The Bulk pack contains 9 x 18"x 32" sheets of Dynamat Extreme, which is about 36 square foot, which I believe will do the whole interior. Once I receive it, and start the job I'll take pics from start to finish. Might make a useful reference for someone who's considering doing it themselves.

JG- Quick tip on using Dynamat. It's worth heating it up with a heat gun (hair dryer will do the job) once you've cut a bit to shape. Makes getting it to follow the form of the area alot easier. Should also mean it sticks better to!

Sorry............I haven't started it yet.

I did drop them an e-mail when I recieved mine, as I know a few other people put in orders and they were told that they no longer ship to the UK. The reply I got was that it was due to the the varying exchange rate and increased shipping costs.

Seems like I was the last one. But the way the exchange rate is now, I don't think I saved much, and it took nearly three weeks to arrive.

Avalanche, installing sound deadening is on my list of things to do at some point in the future. I read that Second Skin Audios "Damplifier Pro" is even better than Dynamat and I think it also works out cheaper. You may want to look into this as well...
