tuscans and baby seats..... is it legal?

does anyone know what the law states about forward facing baby seats and 2 seater sports cars? - I'd ask a copper but they would probably book me for simply interrupting their doughnut break

seriously though - As the tuscan doesnt have a passenger airbag can you fit a forward facing baby seat in it, take the wee one for a safe and sensible spin and not get booked? (I bought my tuscan back in August and yet to actually get the thing out the garage for a decent spin as I seem to be constantly chasing my 9 month old around the living room getting him to cough back up the remote control unit every 5 minutes) - if I could take him for a gentle spin in the tuscan that would be fab - obviously I wouldn't enjoy the drive, it would purely be for father and son bonding!

I hope not because it is exactly what I do. As far as I am aware there are no laws dictating what cars you're not allowed to take your own children out in. Yet

Up to a certain age (not sure what but believe it's 24 months) they have to be rear facing as their necks aren't strong enough to support their heads in the event of heavy breaking or an accident and can quite literally snap them!

My understanding of the law is that a child (again uncertain of age) can't travel in the front of a four seat car but that if you only have a two seater then that is permissable.

If you don't want to ask a friendly BiB speak to Halfords/Mothercare or wherever you got the seat from they should be able to help.

i've just bought 2 seats from mothercare who fitted them for me - one for my freelander which is the same one i'll use for the tuscan and one for my wifes civic. Both are back seaters but forward facing and recommended by mothercare for 9 months to 4 years old - I'm pretty sure its under 9 months that have to have rear facing seats....who knows! - its doesnt seem to be that clear but have no choice but to trust the folk who fitted it

before anyone phones childline! - will only take him out in the tuscan in the dry, daylight hours with no speeding or g-force speed cornering! - will even load the ipod up with the 'tweenies' greatest hits - oh the joy!

I take my 7 month old daughter in the Tuscan, however, in a rear facing seat. I believe it is something to do with the weight of the child ratther than the age that determines whether they should be in a forward or rear facing seat. I was told that a rear facing child seat is always safest.

My two and a half year old son loves being taken out in 'the racing car' (in a forward facing seat) and is constantly asking for a ride!!!!! His mum thinks he's obsessed with the Tuscan....which naturally I encourage.

cool! - yeah I think you are right, its possibly a weight issue - the seats I've bought are fixed so dont swivel so only work as forward facers. Still.... its gotta be safer than fixing the baby seat to the back of my Triumph Daytona - now that would get me booked!

I've wondered whether there's enough space in the back to convert with one or two child seats bolt in? Is this feasible?
