ipod tunes...

Under usual circumstances I would obviously much rather listen to the exhaust note than the stereo. However sitting on the M3 in traffic on the way to work it would be nice to have the option of some music but unfortunately I have no CD changer (not sure if this the norm as my previous MK1 had an autochanger in the boot and my current MK1 doesn't??)

So I've been thinking of getting an ipod adaptor but my radio is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard so I guess the FM transmitter is out of the question? I'm sure I recently read somewhere about a ipod bluetooth device that's hardwired into the stereo for around £200 but having searched on here and on countless i-shop sites I can't find it.

Can anyone help?

If you pay a visit to Halfords they should be able to sell you a unit that connects into the back of your stereo to which you connect your iPOD. With this controller, the radio thinks the iPOD is an external CD multi-changer and your can just move up and down tracks like you would within any one CD. When you change CDs, it will skip albums or playlists (whichever is enabled on your iPOD at the time).

I don't have one in the Tuscan but I do in an Audi A6 and it works a treat. It charges the iPOD as well. In the Tuscan, I have tried a radio sender which works fine and charges the iPOD. I actually get a much better quality sound from one of those cassette tape adapters (it's actually as good in the Audi as the hard-wired controller) but it doesn't charge it so I have a charge plug from the lighter socket as well. Not the most glamorous solution but a lot cheaper than the hardwired controller (c.£130 I think).

I put put an Alpine iDA-X001 in my Tuscan and it works a treat. Full ipod control and it works with my iphone aswell.

I have the Alpine iDA-X001 as well. With a decent set of speakers from Karl Baker it is a good set up.

Pioneer BT AVIC sat nav with Ipod adapter/connection.
Fitted one about two years ago to the Sag, and have the most recent one in the Tusc 2. Brilliant. Not 200 GBP, but a superb piece of kit. The screen folds out in the perfect position on the Tusc, little bit awkward on the Sag.

I've got a cheap something that fills the hole in the dash and occasionally chirps up with traffic news - if I'm in a traffic queue, (M4, A34 or M3 variety) I tend to drift off into la-la land without the need for music - but that's probably the prescription drugs.....

The ipod connector is sooo much better than a CD changer. It is also more reliable, lighter and doesn't take up any boot space.

Do they look OK in the Tuscan - I was thining how black they are and might look out of place.

Prolly not helped by my Grey leather either.

Audio and some radio reception is high on my list of theings ot sort on the TVR this spring

My radio is crap to say the least, i also thought that the FM transmitter that i already have would not work but its fine. It gets no interferance nd the sound quality is as clear as in any other car i've used it in.

I've got one of the Alpine KCA-420i iPod Interface units mounted behind the dash, under the original Apline head unit. About £80 from memory.

Selecting albums through the head unit takes a little time (8GB Nano) but the sound quality is spot-on. Charges the ipod too :-

Is that good or bad? I though that the best look would be something to match leather/metal in cockpit.

The standard one has a grey/metal finish that is nice and inkeeping - bit concerned that a black unit would look out of place.

That said will prolly get one anyway! Can you add DAB to these?

For the first time in 3 months, since I have had the car, I was able to spend a few hours in the sun, tinkering....

Whilst doing so, i decided to find out why the CD Autochanger didnt work (I told the previous owner I would fix it and send his CDs back) I found it was a 2 amp fuse in the boot next to the DAB unit which I didnt know I had.

I have had a DAB radio in my Beemer for about 5 years now, but I'm bued if I can work it out in the Tuscan, i cant even select DAB as a source. I have come to the conclusion that previous owners have changed the head unit to an incompatible model. Its a pioneer KEH-P6600RS head unit and a Pioneer GEX-P700DAB in the boot behind a panel and a six disc changer.

I'm only interested in listening to the football, which on MW is a nightmare. Much better on DAB

What should have originally been fitted(what have other people got that works with this setup) and what should I be looking at to upgrade and still make use of the DAB unit without spending loads a money.
