early rev limit...

Last night i went for a good blast, car was properly warmed up, (10 miles through town, 6+ on B roads) i was in second gear, had green shift light at 5.5 so changed up, then at 5.5k in 3rd i had the light flicker again but this time what felt like the limiter. No other lights and revs only at 5.5k, it didnt spin up, the revs were deffinately only 5.5.
On some of my previous cars, if the ecu thought the engine was still cold, it would bring the limiter in lower. Is this the case with the Tuscan? As per my other post, my temps never get very high, its had a new oil temp sensor and it read -8 yes - when i started it earlyier today. Even after a long drive it sits at 40 and the water at 70.

my rev limiter kicks in about 7300rpm on my 4.0 engine. I think the 3.6 engines rev a bit higher.
No point for my engine going over about 6800rpm, as thats where peak power is (on my engine as shown on RR, others may vary).
I think this might be a new car for you BGB motorsport, I don't mean to sound condescending, but 5500 rpm on the roads in the current weather conditions might just catch you out! Go easy, when these cars show their teeth they bite hard!!

This has happened once when oil temp was about 45 degrees, I'm not aware if there is a low temperature rev limit, but it would certainly make sense if there was. Another possibility could be the coil or a lead breaking down.
I seem to recall that maybe the Sag (or Tam/T350, can't remember) software had a soft-limiter built in based on oil temp but I am not sure about the Tuscan's having anything like that.
The 3.6's do rev a little higher but, as has been said, there's not a lot of point in exceeding 7Krpm as you are moving away from peak power then anyway. When it's cold/wet/icy like it has been lately, I rarely find myself above 5Krpm - too risky, especially in the lower gears....

my T2 does this go above 3000 when its cold and it lights up like a christmas tree. My old MK 1 did not do this the lights only came on at the pre-set settings. It also has an alarm to let you know when you leave the lights on. Real 21st Century stuff.
They do have a limiter it's really violent it just cuts the ignition. I know because i once reached it on a very spirited bit of driving. i thought i had broke it but it cuts back in after a second or two.
