ECU Diy lead works a treat, the only thing is that the pin layout on my car is differant than the threads on here. Had to use pin 3 as referance point and then 2 1 disregarding the colours that are shown on p/h thread
just took monitor from engine and also read manual to understand what I recorded, the only thing that looks a bit unusual is the adaptive values, at 1000 erpm engine temp around 60c the values are: Adaptive1 6.7 and Adaptive2 is -16.2 not sure if this is normal or not?
throttle pots are the same 15%
No faults stored
If coil pack is breaking down will I see that when engine is under load ie: Take log when driving along road whilst the engine is misfiring
Would there be an error code stored?

Isn't that a bit cool to be looking at the adaptives? I don't know where the cold running enrichment ends but normal running would be a lot hotter than that I would have thought.

You should be able to hear/feel the misfire but if not I'd expect it to show up as a lean signal if nothing else. If it's gradually breaking down rather than failed a weak spark is more likely to cause problems under load.

Thanks for the reply V8, Your right its very cool as this morning I did not have clue what to look for as I did not have the s/w or lead to connect but thanks to Basil Brush was soon up and running.
Only had the car a couple of days and it was'nt misfiring.
Drives fine until normal running temp (80c water 60-70c oil temp) then when you labour the engine ie: press the loud pedal it holds back and misfires 8 out of 10 times.
Looking at the diagnostic manual that explains the diagnostic tool everything seems to be in spec except the adaptive values.
Tomorrow will try and run some monitors underload.
You mention running lean in your reply I did notice that although the spark plugs have only done about 1000 miles since service they are very very clean
but then if engine is running lean the adaptive values would be at an extreme value (not sure if it would be hi/lo)as ecu would try to compensate with over fueling and would then throw up an error code maybe, I say maybe because I have only had a couple hours with this program today and only a few minutes with car as wife is on my back, since I picked it up on xmas eve can't stay out of it.
If it was my Chimaera I would change the coil of which I will do tomorow if I can find which model vauxhall senator/omega/carlton uses the same coilpack.
Thanks
Steve

Glad you got the SW up and running.

Assuming your lambda reading is fluctuating correctly for the bank showing the -ve adaptive then it sounds like one cylinder is playing up. If you don´t know when the leads were last done then I´d think about swapping them, as they do get cooked and break down, and make sure no water has got down the plug holes under the top cover.

Have the valve clearances been checked recently?

Valves were done approx 1000 miles ago along with full service, (Matt at Sebring)
Checked plugs and they seemed excessivly with no carbon/sooty deposits
also no water in plug chambers
If 1 or 2 cylinders were down or misfiring regulary thought I might see tell tale signs carbon/sooty deposits. But as I say am new to this engine and not sure what you see.
Did couple of monitors this morning at normal running temp:
Can now see 2 faults on screen saying both AFR values are bad
every thing else looks ok as the manual says
AFR code popped up when I did a slow run in 3rd gear then apply power to put engine under load (engine misfiring all the way through run)
Would assume that the adaptive values have gone to there extreem trying to match the requested demand
Will replace leads and also coil pack today if I can get 1
Thanks
Steve

I had similar symptoms on mine recently, which is why I asked about the valves. One of my exhausts had closed up so once the engine warmed up to around 70 degrees water temp the expansion meant the valve wasn't closing properly. The misfire on this cylinder, and the resulting unburned fuel, was then causing the ecu to try and lean out that bank meaning all the plugs ended up looking the pale side of normal.

Whatever is causing your misfire is giving you the same end result by the sounds of it, but hopefully a more straight forward cure.

Thanks for info Marcus, will check that tomoz
Just replaced ig coil for new one now misfire seems worse
Think I cleared any stored error codes as I said both AFR 1/2 were reading BAD
Now after running with new coil AFR 1 reads BAD and idle has set itself to 1100 erpm
when logging inj 123 now reads 5% instead of 2% Over spec
adaptive 1 has also gone up to 20-28
Throttle pots within spec
Lambda's in spec

Should I see any error codes as the manual says coz all I get is AFR BAD and no numerical numbers
Is it normal that when you key on the ignition that for 1 second "Diagnostic 0" flashes and then is replaced by the default screen
It has a set of Magnicor leads and they do look a bit old, will see if i can get a replacement set tomoz

you need a syncrometer and check intake readings this is probably why youre afr readings are out. sound to me you need to firsty get a leak down test done on cylinders one when cold and another hot this will give idea of an open valve if clearences are too tight and engine condition, do you have written down the gaps found when valves were set??? and were any re-set and to what gap????? not knowing the history of youre car the list of things to check could go on and on -- cats blocked /fuel filter & lines/ Throttle pots/ injectors blocked or leaking / worn inlets / engine loom fault / HT leads etc etc etc.. hope this helps smile

Afr readings were out of spec because I knocked the vacuum pipe of the rear end of fuel rail when removing plug leads for inspection this caused heavy misfire since discovering this still have medium misfire as before.
Have replaced today plug leads and ignition coil checked resistance on all plugs all to spec
still have medium intermittant misfire
Thanks MV

Overfueling and running with a misfire might not have done the plugs any favours so it would be a good idea to replace them just in case.

knocking off the vacuum pipe should not give a missfire unless you disturbed the T/pot or inlets (it could be loose on the screws) or poss injector wire have you checked them for wire corrosion or breaks in wire pull the boot back and have a look also pop them off and make sure pins are fully located, also check fuel injector moves side to side on its 'o' rings a fuel rail which is too tight onto injector can give probs.

knocking off the vacuum pipe should not give a missfire
It would make it run very rich, which can lead to a misfire under part load.

only if you block it off, i take it we are on the same pipe from the relief valve as i have said its not needed to go into air box just dont block it off. smile
