Getting the cam cover off

Almost embarassed to ask but...
having got all the m6/8 bolts out of the cam cover
and the 6 nuts, how do I get the cover free of
the gasket gunk...its stuck like s**t to a blanket
don't want to break anything
Any tried and tested methods out there

rubber hammer and gently tap the corners of the cover apparently that will help.
