Boot opening

Afternoon!

Quick question - the boot button has ceased operating so I'm having to release it using the plunger.;)

Anyone replaced the button / sensor before? Happy to do it although I'm not sure where to start?

I am geting my badge changed soon and the guy told me it was only a 10 minute job so I guess the same applies to sorting out the switch.
I know thats not very helpful but it doesnt sound so difficult although when I looked, I was scratching my head.

Mine's a MK2, but I had similiar problems the other day...the solenoid just seemed to refuse to function...no buzz ..nothing... then after letting the accumate fully charge..It opened... So do these solenoids (bar inside a coil, dry up or get stuck) and require an extra kick ...I don't know ???????

I Live Leeds and have a Mk1 tuscan and can show how to remove the badge to get to the button for the cellnoid etc. We can have chat and coffee if it will help you.

Have you tried opening the passenger door first? The ecu for the door also operates the boot, if this works it could be the ecu and not the solenoid. HTH.

let's assume the boot is open ;-)
there are two big rubber gromets on the back wall of boot
pull em out
put you hand up inside towards catch
you'll feel the head of the badge fixing
its really crude... the mechanism relies
on just the right amout of looseness to
actuate the plunger switch behind the badge
Undo the two badge nuts and you can see
the rest once the bade is off

I dropped the car off at the paint shop earlier so I'll have a look at the solenoid at the weekend.

It's been a bit faulty in the past but it seems to have just given up the ghost!

Guys, this might help a little http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... - I ended up replacing my solenoid after it kept failing intermittently. It's not that difficult to take it out. Replacement is easy enough too with contact adhesive/carpet spray doing the job nicely with the pulled back carpet.

There are a couple of boot solenoids available I think so make sure you buy the right one if that's what you are going to have to do,

I had similar problems with mine a while back MK1, worked when it wanted to. so once id got the boot open worked the solonoid a few times and it was fine for about a week then packed up again. so had the solonoid replaced when i had the service done, but after about 3weeks this stopped working (2days before i was going to be driving up to scotland to get married so wasnt very happy) Found RT Racing was close to me so rung them up and they fitted me a new one the same day and said there was different quality ones which you have to watch for, good and cheep ones, as mine had completely siezed up. Never had a problem since. and got to take her up for my wedding next day.

Hmm it seems I missed my chance at looking at this my boot now fails to open.

Just had a look tonight and tried to remove one of the rubber grommets....how do you get them off? Is is a screwdriver job or will they pull off with out too much fuss. I may just be weak lol

just get your nails under an edge and prize it out
There's not much holding them in but they are a tight fit

Cool cheers I didnt want to bugger something up, I have the habbit to pull on things too hard and break them (that sounded all wrong).

I fixed this last week - turned out to be a faulty wire, although it took a fair bit of buggering about to find it!
