Decided this spring the suspension must be sorted. The response im getting at the mo is quite worrying when travelling at motorway speed. Have standard shocks on 2003/53 car so am assuming these were still not the best set up. I know theres a few I could go for but I obviously only want to do it once so which is it? Its been covered i know but just wondered if anything new was out that maybe i could get a verdict on!

Thanks

I'm not an expert what so ever, but will say that having my shocks, springs and a good geometry set up has made a HUGE difference and increased the driving pleasure massively.
I know that GazGolds are not the most expensive compared to others but I dont do track days and so just wanted a good, reliable solution for every day. What I was advised was that the spring balance is also very important.
All I can say is that my Tuscan is so much better, dont just listen to what are the best shocks but look at the overall package.

I had some Racing Reds fitted and set up by Dulford made soooooo much difference but then my front shocks were crashing so I think anything would have made a big difference

I swapped mine for Nitrons, I know they are a bit more expensive than Gaz Golds and Racing Reds but they really are the mutts nuts. No more tram lining and its simple to adjust them for the ride you like. driving

I've just had the new Gaz Professionals (adjustable) fitted to the MK2 (Have kept the Bilstiens which were in fact very good).

You can get them at substantially less than the Nitrons I can't yet say how good (or not) they are just yet as I have not driven enough miles to make any meaningful comment . I've also written an article for Sprint about them and having them fitted by Track V Road in Clitheroe.

My initial impression is however extremely good.

Did you change the springs aswell Paul?? 'cos 'S' springs are stiffer than non S, and Bilsteins are set harder...so I'm told.

can I ask how much the shocks were - did they include springs at this price too.

is it a straightforward job to change them if I DIY.....

Not all S's or convertables have stiffer springs but some do.

I meant 'S's either Convertibles or Targas... but knowing TVR nothing was ever guaranteed. Not got my car at the moment but aren't the rear stiffer springs Green... (from memory might be wrong....usually am!!)

Im also told going from 245 to 255 on the rear can make a good difference, has this been tried elsewhere, also the drop links!

I'm about to order a set of Gaz Golds.............. I want a softer drive than standard, which will make it less prone to suddenly snapping out of control. I won't be doing many track days and when I do one, I'll simply wind up on the adjustables.

I'm mechanically competant, but as far as replacing the shocks go............can you remove the old shock and replace the new ones without having to undo any of the suspension components (wishbones), as I only recently had a full geometry set up done (Not corner weighted though).

If you keep ride height at current height it will not change things too much but if you drop the car a lot it will significantly increase cambers, that said, our appalling UK roads knock out geometry so a regular check will keep even tyre wear and good handling.

Fitting shocks is simply a question of undoing two 19mm nuts and bolts and changing the unit (as long as they aren't rusted in solid).

Many Thanks Derek.......Will keep it at standard ride height to start off with, and go from there.

Just put my Tuscan in for it's biggie service and decided to have a set of Gaz Gold Pros fitted too.

Was going to have Racing Reds fitted but seems there is a delivery problem currently and there are stories of leaking units. So as the Golds were available at a good price, decided to go down that route.

Will report back later as to how they perform.

Fitting 'Nitrons' to mine transformed the handling.

However, pointless without professional setup and corner wieghting.
Mine were fitted and the set up was carried out for £1200 + vat by TopCats race team.
Parts included.
