Just turned 18.
Discussion
Ok, so i've jsut turned 18 and want to treat myself, been looking around for a while and have decided that a Tuscon is for me, I love the bonker styling, the sound and the performance and the fact they are a failry rare car IMO, i have about £15k to spend on one, but thats not my main worry nor is the fact the car could be a potential moneypit, its the insurance, after looking through various Insurace Comparison websites, it appears i am uninsurable. I have no years NCB as i live in Cyprus and will be moving back to the UK for work comitments. Cost isn't a main priority for me, but i would probably draw the line at £5-6k. Are there any other ways to lower insurance e.g having a first car aswell and using this as my weekend toy??
Thanks
Thanks

The cheapest way is to ask someone who is alot older than you to insure the car and put you as a 2nd driver.
Would i be aloud to do this, as my only relatives living in UK would be my Grandparents, I don't think my grandad would get in one, let alone be able to drive it. Insurance companies will figure that out wouldn't they??MonkeyBusiness said:

Isn't this known more commonly as 'fronting'?ETA: we'll ignore the fact that this is your first car and you are very likely to end up as a statistic, hence insurance premiums are so high... that's your business.

But it does have its benefits i suppose! lol
) but one option might be to get a decent Cerb, Chim or Griff for a year or two. There are quite a few 'cherished' or 'classic' car policies available for these cars that don't require any NCB if you buy one just over 10 years old.Might save you a few grand a year to put towards a Tuscan which will then be much cheaper to insure once you have shown previous experience.

I think you will find that faced with a huge payout (lets say for example ploughing your car into a queue of people at a bus stop) the insurance company will goto great lengths to avoid a payout.
Thumbs up to Cyprus for wanting to do it correctly.

Ah, if you own the car and tell the your insurance you Papa is the main driver. I think that is pretty obvious. You should do it all the way, get a trust worthy person to register the car for you. i think that will be more convincing.
If you own a company not sure how it works as a company car. Other people may have a say.

Hey Craig,
it´s great that you are so enthusiastic about TVR and the Tuscan. It`s also great that you could theoretically afford the car from your own hands`/brain`s work. On the other hand, it is not for nothing that insurance companies charge a fortune when someone at your age is driving such a wappon ...
I am 42 and have practiced about 2 Million miles in all kind of (sports)cars and trucks in my life - STILL I am close to brown underwear when really kicking the Tuscan ... You may want to consider to start practicing with a less powerful car with some electronic helping devices, such as ABS, ESP and Airbags. And hey - you also still need goals and objectives, once you (hopefully) reached my age...

Yes fair enough, I am not affraid to admit i am not a good driver (who is at 18). But the simplicity of TVR's is what gives me 5p/50p feeling. Also i like the idea of respect from fellow motorist, although i don't normally care what people think of me, but the thought of been branded a chav in a RRS, CTR, EVo, STI etc doesn't really appeal to me. I respect your opinion, so does my mother, haha, then again she thinks i should get a fiesta diesel...it´s great that you are so enthusiastic about TVR and the Tuscan. I like the idea of the TVR owners been so tight aswell.

If you insure with Hagerty, aren't you allowed to drive any other car third party that is insured with Hagerty and that does not belong to you? Don't know if you are old enough for one of their policies though?
The idea would be to register the Tuscan in Grandpa's name and insure it with Hagerty. Then find the cheapest "classic" to purchase/insure, also with Hagerty. You then may be able to drive the Tuscan 3rd party and still be within the "rules"? It's a long shot - but it just might work....
Anyway give them a call, they are friendly enough.
