Starting Problems
Discussion
I think this could be the battery but the symptoms are rather odd, so could be starter motor or a lead or maybe the 100 amp fuse? Anyway I would value your opinions.
1. The car has been running fine until this morning.
2. I had noticed that the Accumate had not been turning the last green light on (13v) for a couple of weeks.
3. Noticed yesterday that when starting that the engine turned over with a little reluctance, just once or twice.
Had a really good thrash out in the Tuscan yesterday and when charging the pod showed 13.4V, so alternator seems OK. Anyway put it on the Accumate yesteray evening as I do everyday and this morning all the electrics work fine, doors, boot, lights, indicators everything but the car won't start. The pod usually shows a low voltage if the battery is flattish, but this time there is nothing. When I turn the key I hear the heater flap, the fuel pump, get a click from the solenoid. The pod lights dim and the starter does not turn. Tried turning the key a few times but no joy?
The car did get pretty shaken up yesterday as the Norfolk roads are rough.
Where do you think I should start?

almost certain that the battery is knackerer
the cranking amps are pretty high due to the big compression ratio
the battery could have all the juice to do all the ancilliaries but not quite turn the engine
fact that the pod dims implies significant current flowing
there a couple of recent threads describing bigger batteries

Thanks PetrolheadPete.
It was the battery or possibly a corroded negative terminal as it looks a bit "furry". The battery cover is a bit cracked etc and it looks a bit damp, with no petroleum jelly on the terminals.
Anyway, I charged up my old Chimaera battery and linked it with jump leads for 10 minutes to the Tuscan and she fired up straight away.
If it was a "furry" terminal would that explain why Accumate was not "conditioning" properly??
The accumate is now reading 13.5 volts when not plugged in and the amber and green lights are both lit when it is.
