Finally got round to taking my tuscan 4.0 to Goodwood yesterday to get its noise level measured and at 5200 rpm it came in at 108 dB which the nice marshall told me was too loud for any UK trackdays!!!!!!!!!
Is this true???????
Has any one else had problems with theirs???

Let me know if you've got any ideas.

I think mine came in at about 98 dB when we were tested at the Keevil track day.

108 seems very high - you have got the standard exhaust fitted haven't you?

No. The guy I bought it off had sports exhausts fitted at Mole Valley. Thing is, it sounds great (not actually that loud) and I don't want to pay to have it all changed again. Do you know if there is a bolt on accessory / silencer I could buy???

I think Merlin Motorsport do a bolt-on silencer, but I don't know if anyone has fitted one to a Tuscan before. Might be worth giving them a call - 01249 782101.

2/3 max rev's - simply lie about where the red line is and don't quite give it 2/3rds simple. Also buy some bolt on mufflers, merlin, ACT etc. all sell them. Rich...

editied to say it's 3/4 not 2/3 but you get my drift! R...

Adjust the shift up red light to about 4000rpm then use 2/3 thereof. That should fool them.

Thanx for all the tips guys. I will go back this saturday and find out whether anyone else with tuscan/T350 was tested at 5200 rpm which I quite agree is more revs than I anticipated.....
Will keep all informed re progress

Tower View do some inserts for the Tuscan cans, they got the noise right down on one car - said it sounded rubbish, but it got it on track! They are easily removable so no need to pay anyone each time you need to use them!

just noticed this, hope you don't read this as advertising, but to answer the question we supply a "quiet" tuscan can in high quality polished stainless, they are also re-packable, i figured that owners might want to retain the original looks or use these on the road in some cases, can't give figures but would reduce noise considerably. i've been told that Tuscans with standard silencing are on the limit for some circuits.

I have had 2 standard 4.0 Tuscans tested at Goodwood with the standard exhausts - on the static test both came out at 97dB.

The theory about re-setting the change up lights will not work, unless you drive to them...many of the "locals" have noise meters in their houses linked directly to the council, and they will stop the session if a car is too noisy...

At Keevil my exhausts came in at around 93dBs static if I remember correctly. They were checking the revs so no cheating was entertainable. It might be worth checking but a couple of people there had sleeved exhausts without them even knowing about it. In the early days, BCC, some people slid a pipe down the exhaust to make the pipe straight through. You can easily check this by peering down your exhaust with a torch - if it's as standard you should be able to see lots of holes - it's those which make it quiet.

Having said all that, even the sleeved pipes passed the test (circa 98 dBs ?). One trick was to hold the revs exactly constant at 4000 rpm or whatever engine speed you need to. If it wasn't constant throttle, you can get pops as the revs decrease and that could be the only thing takes you over the limit.

Cheers,

Andy.
