I must be mad.... having had a Cerbie that cost me a fortune and friends who've had the TVR bug quashed by unreliability and wallet emptying, I may.. sort of... perhaps... be considering the possiblity.. of getting a Tuscan.

This is of course since I've been a Honda fan and have completely forgotten how the unreliability crushes your spirit!

So, realistically, if one was to purchase a 2001 or 2000 model and aim to do about 10,000 miles a year with a few track days thrown in, how much trouble could I expect?

I'm well versed in Cerberas, and know that a brand new Tuscan would be pretty much ok, but how about a 2000 / 2001 Tuscan....

Please enlighten me with your unbiased, knowledgable minds

Can only relay my own experience Pikey. Got my Tusc new in Jan. It's awesome, I love it, I get a thrill every time I drive it. It had it's 6k service in September and apart from very tiny niggles which have been fixed it's been great. The thinking tends to be get as new a car as you can. Personally I went for a brand new one on the basis that I would know exactly how it had been driven, warmed up each time etc...

I'm sure you would love it if you got one and it would look good parked next to your caravan.

Hi There,

I have a 2000 Tuscan and it has just done 17000 miles, and the only trouble I have had was a seal in the slave cylinder of the clutch which I fixed myself and a leaky oil pressure switch, apart from that the car goes like a train and I use it everyday.

I have a July 2000 Tuscan which has been used as my everyday car since May this year. I have done about 6k miles and so far costs have been £700 for a service and MOT, and £70 for a battery (plus a lot for petrol. ) My Porsche 944 cost more to run.

Hmmmmm. Buy a new one and lose thousands in depreciation.....

....or buy a 2000/1 2nd hand and risk losing thousands in engine repairs. Tough one!

I suppose at least with a 2nd hand one the loss is "only" a risk but a new one WILL lose you cash!

At the end of the day it's your money so do what your heart tells you.

Best luck anyway.

Bought a November 2001 Tuscan S at the end of March this year with 2600 miles on the clock. Since done 11,000 miles plus. Serviced at factory who gave great customer service. Been to Spain twice. Last trip: Manchester-Dover-Calais-Stuttgart-Mijas (near Malaga, S. Spain)- Santander - Plymouth-Manchester. Had some very minor problems that have been fixed by actory with suitable apologies.

Pikey (nice name) Its like anything in life if something goes wrong people shout which in fairness gives an unbalanced view. If you added up all the sp6 engines that have died against all the the ones that are still alive you would probably be quite suprised, its only a small proportion that have gone wrong it just looks more. You know the saying "the noisey minority, silent majority. Buy one ive been very pleasently suprised how reliable they actualy are against what type of car they are. SUPER
