I know this has been mentioned before...however i want to (a) rant and (b) ask if anyone has any new or fresh ideas?

Every time I use my Tuscan to come to work (Canterbury) the valve caps are stolen. Doesnt matter what time i park it or where, they are always pinched. Gone through 20+ sets now, from chrome ones, locking ones from Halfords down to cheap nasty rubber ones.

Its really getting my goat. Do I keep replacing them or leave them without...? Concerned that if theres no valve caps to pinch they may decide to do something far worse, although the fact that these keeps being pinched really really pees me off.

Anyone else suffered the same? Favourable outcome?

My girlfriend got a cheap set for her Cooper S, they can be done up with a 10mm spanner, did that with a drop of thread lock, they will come off if they really try but will need a spanner.

Happened to me too.

2 were pinched when the car was parked outside my girlfriend's flat in Wapping, and I got them replaced at the car's 6000 mile service. The very next day I took the car up to Santa Pod, and all 4 were pinched, along with those on Alf Essex's car.

It is really annoying to know that someone thinks they can help themselves to bits off my car! If I ever see any bikes in the area with shiny valve caps, I'm going to take them right back!

I changed all of my valves to Richbrook flush mount (ie no stalk with a dust cap). You simply screw the stalk in when air required.

Look great and kids can't nick the caps.

A little scrote nicked mine the other day for his bike. We saw him doing it from my office window but couldn’t get downstairs quick enough before he was gone.

Fortunately I spotted him in good time when he made the mistake of coming back the same way…

Lets just say he won’t be nicking my valve caps again.

Withouth sounding an idiot....how do u fit these..? What happens to the existing stalk that sticks out? Is it pushed in? Is this something i can do myself at home?

Seems like the ideal solution though - very grateful.

I use those grub-screw locking caps. They appear to work fine.

To$$ers is the word I would use....as Ed says we both had ours nicked but could have been a lot worse...we also parked in 'what we were told' was a secure car park in a hotel in the middle of nowhere! but these to$$ers still found us if I see anyone doing again

Richbrook Flush Fit valves can be bought from your local 'Boy Racer' dealer.
They fit like a normal valve, except they are bolted in place on the inner wheel, so you will have to pay for a tyre fitting/balance when changing - I paid £6 per corner with a pack of 4 valves costing £20.
The flush fit valve has a cap which can be removed with a 2p coin or a screwdriver, you then screw in the valve neck when you want to check the tyre pressure or blow it up.

Look at www.richbrook.co.uk/main_menu.html for dealer list

I have these too, also from Richbrook.. they work a treat and are easier to work with than the flush fit ones.. (£9.95 inc vat on the web)

Edite to add.. they are available Plain without the "R" too..

I had some of those until a certain mechanic who shall remain nameless removed them with a spanner instead of loosening the grub screw, ruined the threads of course! Never liked them anyway as they are a bit bigger and heavy looking for my taste. Rich...
