just about to order a battery for my 51 plate tuscan, i remeber reading a post on here about the various different batteries fitted to tuscan so wanted to make sure i got the correct one??

Just replaced mine with an 096, it was actually slightly too big to seat flat in the battery tray, but the only one i could get hold of with a decent crank amperage, 680. It would have fitted fine if i had trimmed the plastic bolt down area off side of battery, but didnt fancy doing that due to the risks. I managed to secure it fine though with the TVR factories preferred method

Had a 4 year warranty too.

I have just fitted an Optima Red Top battery that delivers 815 CCA. I was having problems when starting the car when it was hot. This appears to have solved the problem. I did however have to make up some custom mounting brackets to fix it in place and stop it moving around in the tray.

A bit more expensive than a standard battery but at least i can start it now when I fill up with petrol and the engine is hot.

I thought red tops were all about inital starting ampage and not designed to run constant feeds - radio, fans etc.

Are they suitable for 'real car' use?

I've been quoted £177 for a gel battery which I may invest in if my current battery is tested and confirmed dead (it's flat at the moment and won't charge).

The good thing about gel batteries is that they're designed to do cycles - full charge to flat and then re-charge with no damage to it. They're designed for things like mobility buggies, etc.

My friend who looks after me for tyres, batteries, etc says that they're good for cars (like mine) that seem to drain the battery and then need to be charged.

I'll see what my type 096 battery comes back as; the warranty doesn't cover damage caused by the battery being dis-charged and charged all the time as this damages normal battery.

Fitted mine with a Motaquip Battery 3 : Ref VBY8. Fits perfectly.

I got it from Allan Kay Components on 01302 369515 at a cost of £52.26 incl VAT

I also have the issue regarding a struggle with a hot start and read on head using a better starter motor solves this? Does the battery change do this aswell then? Think i hav the link somewhere...

The starter motor is off a 3 series BMW if I remember right from when I changed mine. I had trouble starting my car full stop and was finally traced to a 'lazy' starter motor.
