Can a few of you do an oil temp to air temp comparisons for me (when cold) Trying to work out if my oil temp sensor is under reading. Mine reads 23 degrees air temp and 0 or -1 oil temp when cold. What's yours at?

Im gonna get a infrared thermometer on it when i get home on thursday, but a comparison would be helpful anyway.

in warming up I get about 10 degrees difference.

I have about 12 degress difference. When i checked my min readings the other day it was -14 for oil!

If your Oil temp is reading around 0 when you start up this time of year, i would say it is faulty. Just as you start your car, the Temps [ water and Oil ] should read about the same.

If it's 12 degrees in my garage then when i start the car the oil and water are both around 12 degrees too, though the water temp climbs a lot quicker than the oil does on the first fuel miles away from my house.

Same as mine. Oil hit's 40 by first couple of miles but water is up to 60's. Takes a little longer for the oil to get up to that but I'm not stuck in traffic and have a lot of air flow through the engine.

Mine had a replacement sensor only last year, i dont see it as too much of a problem unless it starts to read oddly, just means i can get my foot down 12 degrees earlier than you lot

Should both start off similar to outside air temp. The Water on mine then quickly climbs to 75 and the oil takes a lot longer, often remaining under 60 in cold weather because I am cruising on A roads at NSL.

Once you are stuck in traffic the oil temp should rise to be a few degrees under the water temp.
