Decat chip

Search engine is down and I am sure this has been asked before, but can someone tell me what is the result if you run decat pipes with standard chip?
Reason for asking is that while changing clutch have noticed that one of the cats is missing, how can i tell the differance between standard and decat chip

One of your cats is missing? That must have been noisy So do you have one cat, and one hollowed out?

It will be fine to run decat pipes with the standard ECU fueling chip. BUT see below:

1. There is a decat chip available for the standard 4.0 engine from the usual suspect in Brummyland (name withheld!) that MAY have success to get you through an MOT without putting the cats back in. Assuming it's in good tune.

2. Most Speed 6 engines run a bit lean anyway, in particular at higher rpm and as decatting may make it run a bit leaner, it may be worth updating your fuelling chip or getting it mapped. Again contact the well known brummy outfit.

actually just to add, have a look in your ECU box, it might have written on the fuelling chip what it is and when it was made.

Thanks Whitey, Mines an S whether thats makes any differance or not? Think i'll talk to Mr Brummy, and then romove other cat so engine is somewhere close to being balanced, reset adaptives and see what happens, oh and check chip to see if it has decat chip,
This explains when having the mot done a couple of weeks ago that 1 bank was running rich and theres me thinking about lambda's and throttle body balancing. mmmmm....

I understand the decat chip does not work on the S engine, mind you that was 2006 when I tried it in mine, mine have been updated since then.

As I now understand the Decat chip is only for M.O.T purpose as you say is does not work for S models.
Car is now totally decatted and seems to run ok, however only gave it a short blast as struggling to bleed the clutch properly after new clutch fitted.
Will try again tomoz once I've bought another bottle of brake fluid

my mate has a 4.0 s decatted and when he installed the tvr power chip, the car run much better, with a slight power improvement, but more surprisingly it seemed that the car had more urgency further up the rev range. We were told thats because the chip altered the fuelling on his ECU (mapped for cats). He has now upgraded his car to a sagaris engine and he is selling his chip. if you are interested pm him. his PH name is rooty

The point of a decat chip is to either get it to possibly pass an mot or to adjust the fuelling so it is optomised with the cats removed.

I have the TVR Power decat chip in my S spec engine and it runs beautifully!

I haven't got to MOT time yet but I don't think it will pass with the decats, watch this space! My cats had melted so it was either buy new cats or decat and have the chip. I got it to optimise the engine running with the decats.

re reason for wanting one is the car runs dangerously lean in the upper rev reange and i need more fuel delivery after 5k rpm

I've got Power Decat pipes and chip sat at home doing nothing. Removed them and put the cats back in as it was too loud. Anyone interested make me an offer
