Engine missing under load
Discussion
My 4.0l is going off a cylinder when pushing on in 4th or 5th. It runs up through the revs to 6500 fine when in first or second (i.e. not under so much load) but definitely goes off when in 4th or 5th and loud peddle in pressed.
I've been running on 95 petrol for all of this year so I don't think its a fuel issue (unless local Sainsbury's had a delivery of dodgy fuel). I did put in an octane booster last night which is supposed to add 1.5 ron to the fuel rating but this didn't make a difference.
Car is due a service about now so it will get a tune-up week after next but the TVR specialist in N.Ireland is on holiday this week and I'm doing a trackday next weekend.
Any thoughts on what would be causing this? Is there an octane sensor somewhere that might have become confused? I'm wondering if I empty the fuel tank and put in some BP Ultimate (15 mile drive to get to a station with this!) whether it will put itself right??
Cheers,
Al
