another newbie

Hi all,
Well I've finally put down my deposit on a Mk1. It has a few things need doing on it. Like the paint is crazed above the exhaust manifold.Is there a heat blanket or similar upgrade to stop it recurring after I paint it? Also what is the deal with these cars and flat batteries. They all seem to suffer from it. Is the alarm immobiliser particularly active? Is there a computer constantly running? Weird. Does anyone know a cheap source of clear indicator lenses? Is it a pain to take the main bonnet off?

had my first flat battery but i think it's my own fault.
i had problems with the speakers and worked on the car with the radio constantly on. be sure you leave the battey charge cable outside the car
removing the main bonnet is work for piano players. you'll really need thin fingers for the top connection
be sure you let the car warm-up well before revving high and check the oil and cooling fluid frequently

The battery issue is mainly due to the fact that many Tuscans are used as weekend/fair-weather cars. Mine is fine if I use it regularly, no more battery issues than any other car. In the winter though I might not take it out for a few weeks, so need to make sure the battery is on charge. Due to the "unique" way in which Tuscans are designed, if you lose battery power, getting into the car is difficult - battery required to wind down window and open doors, also to open the boot.

taking the main bonnet is a walk in the park compared to fitting your own clear indicator lenses, get a dealer to do it, maybe my hands are too big but i found this a right PITA. main bonnet i can do in 5 mins on my own

Without wanting to sound like a halfwit, do you have any more info on doing it-the bonnet I mean I'm relatively proficient with spanners and stuff, just need pointers at this stage.
