fire extinguishers

Hi,

Being new to Tuscan, I have heard there are a few essentials to carry in the car one being a fire extinguisher, god forbid my baby should catch fire. My question is CO2 or Powder? CO2 makes sense to me as powder wouldnt really get up into the engine bay from underneath, but any feedback would be welcome.

I would suggest AFFF (water/foam) or dry powder. I've heard too many horror stories about dry powder to be entirely happy with it, but the suppliers talked me into it because it is much better at knocking the fire down. However, make sure you're out of the car before you use it (you will be blind after it goes off) and expect to have powder blowing out of nooks and crannies for the rest of the car's life.

I recently took TVR to France and took an extinguisher but struggled to put it anywhere out of the way - where do people have theirs?

My intent would primarily to save myself (and pass obviously) if anything happened and struggled to get out of the car.

I was thinking that it might be worth getting one with a hose so you could poke it into the bonnet (by windscreen).

Any links to suggested extinguisher to piccys of locations appreciated.

iv just fitted a plumbed in motorsport spec 3 nozzle fire extinguisher kit.

as 2 of the potential fire hazzards are under the bolted on bonnet ( anderson plug and Airbox) and the other is underneath the rear of the car ( fuel tank to pump fuel line)

the kit cost around £280. Pm me if you need help or more info

i have fixed the anderson plug by fitting a new plug, filling the the top of the plug with silicone, fitting the protective rubber boot and fire sleeving all the electrical cables.

The best place I've found for mine is sideways under the drivers knees. This is accessible from outside the car without getting in, accessible from the driving seat if necessary, and almost completely hidden from outside the car so no worries about leaving the top down.

I have mine in the tray on the pax side, fits in the corner and would need to roll the car for it to 'fall' out, but no worries when driving. Or I sit it behind the pax seat when on track. Means I just have to tilt the seat forward to reach it, but its not getting out until then.

Are you saying it's just held in by gravity? I wouldn't be at all happy with that. Fire extinguishers are big heavy unforgiving things to be bashed on the back of the head with in a shunt.

I fitted the one in my Chim behind the drivers seat, which is what I'd planned to do this time round, but having purchased a new hand held extinguisher wondered if it's a waste of time with a bolted down bonnet. I'm now seriously considering a plumbed in system

no its wedged in, its the right size for the tray and can only come out if I slide it to the radio centre and turn it. Think the crash would be fairly severe anyway to dislodge it.
