Second gear problem.

Hi Mike,
I had the same problem, seem to remember Jason at STR8-6 told me it was a spigot bearing/bush. Don't quote me on that though, i may be wrong.
It was getting pretty annoying, dropping it to second only to have it jump out was a bit dangerous too. Ended up having the 'box rebuilt as all the internals needed to come out to repair anyway.
Tell me, do you have any trouble changing from 1st to 2nd at load, any crunching etc?
Cheers,
James

Hi James,
No problem with 1st to 2nd, only occasionally 2nd. If I feather the clutch it doesn't happen but if trying to short shift it sometimes jumps out.
What was the cost of rebuilding the box incl removal and refitting? Just had the steering rack reconditioned so could do without another big job!
Cheers!

Mike,
I was offered two options, prices are from memory as i'm not at home to look at the paperwork-
a) Standard rebuild using original casing c.£600
b) Close ratio box using original casing c. £1350
I went for the close ratio box, purely because i liked the idea of doing 70 in first! Silly i know but the acceleration is drastically improved over the old box.
Hope this helps,
James

Big problem, hung around for about 6 months before it started me throwing out of gear, then i finally gave in and had the work done.
When accelerating hard in 1st and changing up to 2nd, often got a big crunch..
I think at the time someone mentioned engine/gearbox mounts to me. Has your stick moved at all? May be worth checking the mounts but sounds like thge problem i had..
Cheers,
