Hi everyone,

Im buying a mk1 W reg tuscan.

I went to see the car today, and was happy with it. But it was dripping coolant very slightly onto the ground. Is coming from the filler cap area, as i can see down there with a torch that it looks a little wet.

It doesnt over heat, and its just had a 12k service done.

Could it just have been overfilled or should i be cautious?

IT didnt seem to leak when leaving it idling for 15 mins at 94c temps, it was only really when i held the revs up a little, and even so it was only small.

for the sake of a 10 minute job, ask to remove the bonnet and have a closer look.

The filler cap is a pressure release valve and will vent steam when the system is over filled but you should see this if the car is running at 94 degrees. If the fans are cutting in and out at the right temp then you should be OK. Could you get the system pressure tested just to be on the safe side?

I've had all sorts of cooling system issues finaly diagnosed and resolved by TVR Power - it was the wrong thread on the filler cap!

ok guys, a 2nd viewing and it seems to not be leaking so hoping it wqas just overfilled.

It does however have a VW/audi logo on the coolant pressure cap. Is this normal? wouldnt surprise me if so. biggrin

Perfectly normal to see VW/Audi on that cap. At least you know where to buy a spare if needed!

Enjoy the Tuscan.

cheers!

Got it cheap due to a few light paintwork issues, otherwise has a good service history by eupphoria racing.
