How loud is a standard Tuscan?
Discussion
I am a proud owner of a Tuscan 4.0. I have "traded up" from a Chimaera 450. Wow, is this Tuscan LOUD. A real throaty rort with real bass, and lots of pops and crackles on the overrun.
I wasn't expecting this having come from a V8, the cans look standard. I have driven a couple of Tuscans before and they were nowhere near as loud. Could sleeving a standard exhaust do this?

Have a look down the bore of the cans. If there are hundreds of little holes then they are standard cans (and, therefore, reasonably quiet). If it's smooth then they are sleeved.
Has it been decatted as that adds a few dB to the equation!!
PS. I traded up from a Chim 450 too
I can't believe how different the 2 cars are.

I knew ten came into it somewhere as its a log ![]()
but
Decibels (dB): A measure of the sound level (loudness). The decibel scale is a logarithmic scale; as an example, a 90 dB noise is TEN times louder than a 80 dB noise.
AH its coming back to me, 80 dBs is 10 power 8, 90 is then 10 power 9 i.e. 8 zeros or 9 zeros ..................god I'm still thick though

1db increase is double the sound. so 118db must have been ear bleedingly loud!!!!
It was loud outside, but much quieter than a standard Chim inside, well until the throttles opened and the Tachometer was heading for 6k. It took 4 extra silencers to get within the Castle Combe 100dB noise limit.

It seems to be getting louder the more miles it has on it (now 13k)

That would explain why mine can make your ears bleed with its bangs and pops, 35k now. The garage did ask if I'd had it decatted from its last visit cos it was the loudest one they'd had in. I think the cats are still there but you never know!!
The cats burn out hence it gets louder.
Unfortunately this leads to debris from the cats getting back into the engine(yes I know hard to believe it's something to do with the pulsing of the exhaust/back pressure etc) and also potential for the cats to be blocked slightly which reduces performance, causing rich running and exhaust valves burning out.
If I ever bought another new speed 6 car(not that I ever would) I would de-cat the bastard from day one.
