Another bootlid thread

Has anyone had to tackle the bootlid alignment? Mine sits proud on the drivers side and looks a bit crap from behind.... and let's face it that's the view most others have of a Tuscan I assume any adjustment is at the hinge? Can it be shimmed or adjusted at all?

I adjusted the position of the catch Which helped to realign mine. Took a fair few attempts though.

I had new hinges fitted to mine and it looked worse which was a pain considering I payed for the work.
I then decided to fix it myself which was even worse.



Seriously though, the gas strut is on the drivers side and I think that it is what causes the problem.
My Mk2 has got struts on both side and so is set equally.

Its only a Mk2 convertible that has struts on both sides, a Mk2 Targa only has a single strut.

OK you win, your shut line is worse. Shame about the loss though.
Thanks to all for the advice, still not sure if it will fix or not, I'll have to have a good look at it.

Originally my boot was high on the drivers side but only at the hinge corner.
I was told that I needed a different hinge but after it was fitted, the boot was high all the way down the drivers side. I couldnt see any real reason for it. It still seemed to me that the hinge needed to be lowered but the problem was lower priority while I sorted out a battery drain problem and some other bits.
Then you see in that photo that I would have been happy to keep my small alignment problem.

Well mine sticks up a bit on the driver's side too.

I can't see how to adjust it; But if it was flush all the way round, how would you lift up the lid?

Its a bit of a design fault that with the spoiler on you can't get fingers under the trailing edge of the lid to lift it open.

Or are they supposed to spring open?

My guess is that they are supposed to glide open gracefully when you push the button. As we know they don't.
I think I'm going to try mine with the gas strut removed and the hinges loosened off and possibly the latch removed. Hopefully that will allow it all to self centre and find a happy level.
