Driving in Brittany with Tuscan
Discussion
Just returned from France and from a driving perspective, esp in Brittany. WOW.
The roads are in an amazing condition, hardly any traffic on the dual carriageways/motorways, went for 45 mins without seeing another car!!! speed cameras are well signed and there are no middle lane hoggers!!!! Even the country roads are a joy to drive on. The French also seem to appreciate the TVR, and the petrol is cheaper.
Why in this country have we got it so wrong. Returned to Portsmouth and on the way back towards London came across many middle lane drivers going slowly and with fogs on with out any fog around.
Definitely will be going back.

France is magnificent to drive in, but try to get more off the Autoroutes and onto the local national/d-roads. Our merry band of motors always has two full days of quality French road driving each year before the Le Mans race and often these times are more enjoyable than the race day itself! We found some epic driving roads about 1 hour north west of Alencon (about 1 hr all told from LM), and tonnes around Epernay (Champagne country) and south of Le Mans around Chinon. If going further afield, Provence and the south coast has acres of PH forum time dedicated to the delights of driving in France - recommend the "Roads" forum.
our country is good for driving on small roads I recognize, speed traps are mostly found on motorways. My father's place is in Brittany and I love driving there, even the motorways are free in Brittany instead of the others in France which are highly expensive.
TVRs are rare, that's why people look at them as if they were UFOs.

I would highly recommend a trip over. I will be going back next year with out doubt. Took the fast boat to Cherborg and was enjoying myself within minutes of embarking. Driving on the other side is easy and roads are well signed and have markers on the central reservations to indicated the road you are on. I did not come across any tolls in Brittany and am amazed that you can get such good roads without paying for them. One word of warning, the signalling/indicating at roundabouts seems to be sporadic at best.
I drove to N164 route to Quimper and on the way back went for the N165 to Rennes and then the A84/E03 back to the port. Only 4.5 hours either way although it seemed like minutes.

Love driving in France.
Used to work in Switzerland so would drive as far as possible in France before crossing over into Germany.
Sorry Germany but the Autobahn down to Bassel is not so good. (maybe youve fixed it now).
Also driving all the way down is still a pleasure with the quiet Autoroutes.
Off the Autoroutes, always got warnings from locals if there was a trap about.
Perfect.
