Losing RPM signaland Code L

Guys,

I have a Code L error flashing up occasionally, but when it doe i lose my tacho.

The Speedo continues to work fine both digital and analogue.

any ideas?

I have the same, it has been sugested it could be the sensor on the diff however I cant see how this could control engine revs

I agree it cant really be.

The RPM must surely be taken from the flywheel or crank?

In any case, i have found that a firm slap of the dash sorts it so possibly a loose connection behind there, just wondered if any one else has any input.

yeah i guess it could be that, just the whole code L error confuses me when L is meant to be the speedo sensor.

Any tips on how to access the crank sensor?

If you drive at constant trottle do you get the odd drop in RPM every so often? Mine has started to do this now and again (enough for you to feel through the car) and was wondering if its related to the L error code

Right guys.

Update - is DEFINATELY fixd when i slap the dash, so the question is will it be an actual LCD dispay fault or a dodgy connection?

Im gonna take it a part and inspect.

daston -no my rpm drops off completely, but the car still drives perfect.

Only when i come to idle speed the CODE L shows up.

My speedo never stops working, just the rpm.

Im gonna take it a part and inspect.

It won't the display itself, but it may be something one one of the pcbs. Take off the top cover, careful not to break the cables that go to the gear change lights and the two knobs. They all unplug.

Check all other plug-in connectors on the boards. With ignition on, engine running, select the summary screen, and gently push the pcbs in and out, see if you get any strange readings or display anomalies.

If you do try to work out where on the boards you have to push to make it happen.

Ahh with you so its not engine related then.

Mine will drop to 500rpm and run lumpy and if I dont blip the throttle it will go as low as 200 then the Error L and then stall.

Yeah thats my thinking, would explain the random rpm drops when I am driving steady.

daston - i had my crank sensor cleaned out yesterday by my local garage, an italian car specialist called poweritalia.

Ring the chap there and he'll prob tell you how to do it.
