To be sure I removed my thick 25mm rubber fuelhose from the petroltank to the inlet of the petrol pump. I showed fine from the outside (2003 model, 15 000 miles) but is was hard as a rock. When I twisted the hose twice a lot of cracks (inside and outside!)could be seen. I showed the hose to a rubberhose-expert and according to them the rubbercompount is wrong in combination with the heat of the exhaust. It is important that you use a NBR quality suitable hose for the modern fuels. (with all the new dopes!)
Ah yes, mine has just split dumping fuel all over the exhaust and drive. I noticed it when parked up but don't know how long it's been wetting the exhaust pipes. 
It is also an expensive repair, especially when getting it on the ramps exposes rusting discs on the inner face, a leaking shocker and worn top ball joint!
Suppose its an excuse to fit new shockers, I'll sell it to the GF as a reason to change all 4!
