To say an engine rebuild is required and there's 47k on the clock, don't you feel they're asking a little too much for this?

Sounds like the car could be a tad worse for wear and much more than a rebuild is required. Hence, say this needs 10k spending on it, you're paying 20k for a (albeit warranted and pukka) motor with 47k on the clock...

Seems like I would be far better off spending 14/15k on a newer one, less used and spend 5k on a TVR-Power 3 year warranted rebuild..

What you Chappies reckon?

Am i reading a different advert? It says that it will probably need an overhaul at some time, that could be said for any speed 6 thats not just had a rebuild. To say that it needs 10k spending on it without even seeing it seems a tad misinformed (unless you have seen it or spoken to them).

Granted it MIGHT need a rebuild but for 10k can you really complain? If it does you would end up with a sorted Tuscan for 15k.

Spend 10k on this car, 1k on suspension, and drive it until the engine goes pop or wear gets out of hand. Then spend 9k on a TVR Power 4.3 rebuild. That gets you the best of all worlds - you'd have a very desirable colour combination with aircon and a 5 year engine warranty.

I agree, it needs a rebuild. While else would the ad be worded as is. I am sure it has some useful life but is probably sounding like a sewing machine.
Could be a decent car for a few grand I am sure.

BGB - What kind of dealer would include that in their advert if it wasn't in need of attention?

Regarding the 4.3 Tvr Power upgrade...I thought they only gave 3 year warranties?

If I could know 1/2grand off (and it wouldn't surprise me if there is that much negotiation to be done) I reckon you could end up with a nice machine for 16/17k.

Sorry if I sounded harsh - I was fed up with some muppet who bruised their toe and are now making a claim and I have spent all day putting a defence together.

My point is that it may not need a full rebuild at all and before anyone write its off as needing a full rebuild they should do some digging, I had the cams out and changed damaged followers with it all in situe at very little cost.

I could fit all new followers, cams, valve seals, half time bearing, tensioner bearings and seals for sub £1000 in parts and the head does not even need to come off.
The cost you pay for a rebuild is very "weighted" and when specialists charge for work they have not even done or use second hand bits you may not be any better off with a full rebuild than having the work done that it actually needs which may actually be very little.

Don't under value your cars this car is worth £9k all day even if it needs a rebuild at some time I have a 2001 with 30K miles on the second rebuild. The same for Cerb's the cars are under valued.

Just out of interest why is it that all the specialists take the engine out for head changes etc? Is it a time factor thing ie it can be done in situe but takes much longer? Not doubting you but there must be a valid reason why all of them do it as it is not a small task.

However I do agree with you it might need a rebuild but could just need head work so you could get a rather sorted car for £15k

I have no idea, I have not actually had the head off but see no reason why its not possible, i did every thing else apart from lifting it off!. Once the skuttle panel is off there is loads of room. The main problem is getting the crank pulley off, that takes time but I have done it twice.
