does anyone have any experience with winter specific tyres - if they exist.
If they don't, are there are patterns that seem beeter than others on our delightful roads over the winter months?
Thanx.

yep, it's really worth it - safer and confidence insipring = more fun more of the year. Superb in dry, wet, snow. Just going to swap my R888 wheels back over now these are the best

Avalanche - any experience / views on the Pirelli Sottozero? I was just looking at these today since they are Lotus's recommendation for the Exige.

How is the Tuscan on proper snow? My sister lives near Chambery and I've always wondered what kind of trip it would be to go skiing in the Tuscan! Not literally of course!

Nice 'photoshopping' by the way.

hi Al,

I've driven the Tuscan on snowy roads, in the valley and mountains with winter tyres and it does as well as any other RWD car frankly... Haven't ever lost it or crashed it, but if that happened I'd be covered, insurance wise, with the correct tyres..
If you're going to make the trip, you just have to be lucky (or be time-flexible) you don't get caught in really bad conditions though... Even my 4WD Cossie with winter tyres struggles there and have to put the chains on...

Have fun!

Does your insurance still cover you even if the tyres are only speed rated up to 149 mph...

I know where you're coming from Gordon, but this speed rating thing is a bit of a con (I think), not sure insurance companies understand it either... Z rated tyres are virtually obsolete now but only stated 150+ , V,W and Ys are now 150,168 and 186 respectively. If I was an insurance company I would be more bothered about all these TVR owners driving about on 10 year old S02s and S03s... Insurance companies should discount you for running on "good" tyres to suit the condtions.. As Avalanche states "Winter tyres are required by Law in certain countries" ... I think carrying chains may also be compulsory.

Thought this was a good document http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html
