You can hear all sorts of sounds when accelerating, sounds never previously heard!

And a definite increase in power, too.

Unlikely, you would probably need to refit the cats for the MOT due to emissions. Even with the TVR Power chip it is unlikely. I'm going to try but have some cats just in case.

Is it a simple bolt in / bolt out job. Never really paid much attention to that end of the pipes while under the car.

Recently put my cats back on the car for MOT. They forgot to test emssions and the car passed with flying colors. Now it's decatted again. All the work for nothing!!!

in a way it's a simple bolt off/on yob and easy when the car is up in the air
but the clamps used for the cat's can be an menace.

How are you going to hear the subtlety of that new sound system with no cats? OK, I guess you'll need to turn the volume up hence the need for better speaker setup!!! Look forward to hearing it sometime soon - haven't heard a decatted Tuscan.

You'll be sleeving the rear cans next!

i have done it about 2 month's ago
i makes a lot more noise but only when you push the peddle down
if you drive normally there's only a small difference
so no problem
he can still use his sound system

De-cat and sleeved/CCC's is mega loud, 130dB ish. It's great for a bit of fun, with loads of pops bangs and flames out of the exhausts if you get it right . However it can be a little wearing on a long trip and a bit OTT at times.

Not sure that de-catting makes the engine run lean though? The Oxygen sensors which control mixture are before the cats so it makes no difference????

according to TVR power the speed six engine is running lean on high revs with cat's
removing the cats makes the problem bigger.
buying and fitting the chip is peanuts compared to eventually to high temps and engine problems.
and
the chip makes the engine even run better (there's no dip anymore)

Power also say it's only suitable for the standard tune Speed 6, not the S spec. Not sure why though?

Are you sure about that? I have a TVR Power rebuilt S spec engine which has been decatted. Dom advised I use the decat chip so I have one fitted. The car runs beautifully!

Thanks for the comments guys, Rens - I need to find out categorically whether that chip is suitable for the S spec engine;

And Al: I didn't do it for the noise, it was just to make it run better and so as not to destroy the cats! Its not really much louder when pottering about, but when accelerating its pretty savage!

Powers decat chip (to help it pass the ##T) was not suitable for my S spec engine in 2006. It did not pass the ##T and it ran too lean on the dyno.

Others with standard 4.0 engines did manage to pass the ##T.

I'm sure Power have updated the chips since then, best to contact them.

From experience it depends on the testing centre... My decatted "S" passed with flying colours due to the garage's sympathy for us poor persecuted souls!

when de-catted, what sort of db would i be looking at?? most track days have a max 105db

Not sure, but with the standard cans on you should just scrape through if you're careful with the loud pedal.
