Can anyone confirm some specs for me please?
I am in the market for a Tuscan, but so far nobody I ask seems able to answer the following questions.
What is the engine capacity of a Tuscan? 4.0 or 3.6? If both exist what year did it change? What are the differences?
What year did the Red Rose Variant arrive? How do I tell a RR version from a stock version? Was the RR upgrade ever available as a retrofit option? If so what should I look for to prove the conversion has been done? (Physical stuff, not just a piece of paper).
Any help & advice gratefully received.

The Red Rose was an option on the orignal 2000/2001 4 Litre Tuscan It come with 18" Wheels, bigger drilled front disc, better suspension & 380 BHP (with Red Rose written in marker pen on the engine!)and cost about 4k extra.
It was superceeded by the Tuscan S in 2001 which orignally had 390 BHP + all the extras (- hydratrack) on the options list of the standard Tuscan , the power output has since been increased to 400 BHP.
The standard Tuscan in 2000 started as a 4 Litre 360 BHP and was reduced to 3.6 Litre 350 BHP sometime in 2002.

....but just to confuse things, the last few batches of 4 litre cars (late 2001 and all 2002 4 litre engines I believe) were red rose spec but without the marker pen telling you so.
As NCE61 says though, the brakes, 18" spiders etc give a few clues. Short of unbolting the bonnet it's not easy to tell on earlier cars.

Some standard 4 Litre 2000 cars also had the full 380 BHP

Some standard 4 Litre 2000 cars also had the full 380 BHPI belive mechanically the engines are all the same the extra quoated power only comes from ECU mapping/ignition advance.

I agree with you Nick, although my dealer reckons the RR or S engines have different injectors.
This really pisses me off, as when I ordered my RR at the 99 motorshow, Peter Wheeler himself told me the RR engine would have different camshafts, double valve springs and a steel crank. All meaning a more powerful peaky engine. That was all it took (plus another free beer) for me to place my order !!
There is a lot of talk about Tuscan engine specs but few appear to speak with convincing authority.
I find it hard to believe that the mechanical difference between an 'old' 4.0 Sport and an RR or S are merely electronic. To detune a car by that much only using electronics is not easy without other huge giveaways like utter undrivablity in one or other specs. Turboed cars as we all know have this facility but natural aspiration just doesnt, unless one revs to bang and the other tickles away.

The Tuscan I have recently bought (2000 X Reg)does have the 18" wheels drilled front and rear disks, so at a glance you would think it was a RR spec. Appart from the RR on the engine how could yo tell if it was a RR or not?
Same here, mine is a March 2001 model, has 18's all round, drilled front discs and goes like absolute stink!

The ride is very stiff as well and it sticks to the road like glue round the twisties. Makes me think it might be a RR.
Who do you need to talk to at the factory to find out the build spec of your car?

Phone the factory and they send you a report on your car with the spec and chassis number. When I bought mine it was £30+vat. You should get a 2 page report.
