always loved the tuscan:-) everywhere i read i hear scare stories about the engines going pop with costly rebuilds. My understanding is that if u treat them nicely and service them correctly one can get a reasoble life out of them. I was wondering if anyone considered swapping the engine on one of these. I was thinking of an inline 6 from a bmw m3? googled it and cant find anything. Not keen on the chevy and ford swaps out there.

You could buy one and never have a problem. You could buy one and have a problem really soon. You could buy one, have a different engine installed in an attempt to avoid any issues only have the car t-boned by some halfwit and written off.
I'd say be mindful of the known Speed6 issues and do the research (which you've obviously started), but don't loose sight of everything else that could happen through the course of ownership as there's probably an equal or greater chance of running into normal problems.
Another way to look at it is that a slush fund of 4-5k is usually recommended in case you get S6 problems. An M3 transplant is probably going to set you back by a figure not too far from that (I would have thought), and then if something goes wrong with that........you've spent just as much or more.
I'm sure M3 lumps have a notably lower failure rate over a given number of units, but they're not infallible as I'm sure those who've had to replace VANOS units will tell you.

Tuesday 12th I'm taking it to Birmingham for the PH Motor Show, then on the 17th.... I'll be in driver's Walhalla
Oh and erhm.. I did look into a V8 transplant, but having done the same with my Elise (Honda transplant in that case), I decided it's best to stay "as close as possible" to the original concept. Allthough, admitted, I pushed it far beyond the limit :-)
