Whiffy Tuscan

All, i have now had de cats fitted to my Tuscan S (mark 1) and changed the cans to make it a little quieter! However i have a faint smell of petrol in the cabin and my revs are a little higher. car idles at 900-1000. I assume this is because the restrictive cats have been removed. But does any one know if I need to have a decat chip fitted or can we just play around with the settings in effect dial out the over fuelling issue?

Smell should be no worse unless you now have a slight leak. The exhaust gas could be leaking at the cats and coming up through the transmission tunnel.

Taking the cats out doesn't affect the fuelling as the Lambda sensors are before the cats.

yes and no. If like mine it was a very slight leak and could hardly be heard. I had to take off the chassis brace plate then with a cold engine felt round the cat flange and could just feel it. get hot bloody quick! The cats are located below the gear stick so i presume the exhaust gas was gathering and coming in there.

If i was driving it was fine, but if sat stationary for more than a few seconds it became noticable.

I could smell exhaust before we went to France upon checking the 2 slots at the joint with the de cats had about 1mm exposed not sure if not pushed on far enough or de cat pipe slightly short will find out soon cats going back in for MOT
