Am having four new gaz golds fitted on my 2000 tuscan on friday, replacing standards. what should i expect?

How people see the performance of new shocks is down to how they are set-up by the fitters and how bad the old schocks were. I would expect an improvement if the old shocks were past their best.

they were 10 years old and it failed its mot as they were leaking. cars done 40k miles.
how should they set the car up?

Depends on how you like the ride.

First thing is to make sure it looks right.

You can initially go for 160mm/150mm rear/front from the out riggers but it may still not look right as the panels/ wheel arch heights can vary from car to car.

Get garage to set it, drive up the road let it settle then look at it, if its not quite right, a bit high over 1 wheel arch, maybe a bit low over another get garage to adjust accordingly until you are happy.

The new GAZ shocks have half the amount of click adjusting on the dampners. Each to their own but I prefer a firm ride so have 12 at the back and 10 at the front, but a good place to start is probably 10 at the back and 8 at the front and go from there, easy to adjust until you get the ride you want.

Getting the setup right will dramatically improve handling from a standard or leaking setup.

My Mk1 was a year 2000 as well.
I had Gaz golds fitted and had the geometry set up at the same time.
The improvement was very dramatic.
Changed from scary tram lining to simple brilliant to drive.

its not so bads on the tram lining front, since the tyre were changed. pot holes can be an issue!
