Can someone tell me when they replaced the "pod" dash with the wavy one. Did these go just in the convertibles or were there any Targas made with the wavy dash........looking at a 56 plate but has a pod dash....does that mean its likely to have been manufactured way before it was registered or were they still putting pod in upto the end of Targa production ?

A "56" plate means very little...only the date it was 1st registered..it could have sat unregistered for a period of time....Look at the VIN plate in the boot (last digits A6yB001xxx where y is 5 for 2005 or 6 for 2006 and xxx is build number within the year..2005 build numbers got up to about 400 upto Dec 2005 and 2006 upto about 090 by August 2006). This gives you an idea of when in each year it was built...other way is look at sticker on wiper motor.
Convertible dashes went into Targas for about Late 2005 (1st verts were Sept 2005) and have convertible electrics aswell (so often refered to as Mk3). Only about 20-30 made, a similiar number of non wavy Targas made in 2005.

Thanks Keith

Should I be reading anything into "vert electrics" comment ?.....ie are the electrics in the Convertibles any more reliable than Targas ?

The Tuscan 2 Targas had the convertible dash from January 2006, although if the figures are correct there were only 26 made. A pod dash would indicate an earlier build date than this. There seem to be quiet a few later registered Tuscan still with the pod dash due to the dealers having to buy stock, I know when I bought my Tuscan 2 S the dealer had two in stock which he could not seem to sell no matter how much he reduced the price.

There were mods done to the early periscope pod...championed by Lady Topaz and ANother IIRC to aid visiblity in bright light. Also the analgoue speedo incase the digial pod fails.
I'm told by the Factory Service Managers that the MK3/convertible eletrics are significantly better..but electrics/electronics were never TVRs strongest specialism..I've followed GrahamVs advice and shifted my PAS relay into the passenger footwell for example and got rid of the unnecessary wiring....after blowing the 45 amp relay five times, my 75 amp one works a treat.

Bit confused by that statement, is that an after fit for the periscope type pod? I had some problems with my display breaking up originally but have managed to resolve them now (fingers still crossed), always have the SatNav close to hand as backup though!

On the vert and Targa with a wavy dash, there are analogue speedo and rev counter dials like a Sag...PLUS the digital type display (with Speed/Temps/Time/Odometer etc.)....
I may be wrong but I thought a MK2 periscope type only had a digital speedo readout, correct me if I'm wrong.

You're correct the Mk2 periscope is digital only, think I read your post wrong, in my mind that was what you were refering too. Confusion over, thank you biggrin

Do the tuscan chassis numbers follow on?,or are they shared with other models? after all its a chassis number not a body number
Is it possible the chassis could be made and date stamped, before being called for use on models other than and including tuscans?
Just looked at my mk3 registred 07, chassis built 13 oct 2005 and is 6A 75B001XXX.
year 2005 chassis numbers exceeded 400 by october.so how many TVRs using that chassis type were made in 05?

chassis was built well over a year before she was registerd
but how long did the chassis stand before it was designated to model a body fitted ?

VIN /Chassis numbers were allocated when a car was ordered and stamped on a chassis rail. Both chassis and bodies will have been made in advance...bodies especially need to be left for a few months to "cure".
The last 3 digits were used as a "build number" during production and are shared beween all models. You'll find various bits of your car car have the build number written on them, it was the way of matching all the bits to a particular car...Also the means that potato muncher has the exact paint formulation for each car when it was made.
