is it a mk 1 or a mk 2

have you tried pulling the wire and opperating the switch at the same time?

I think you might have a problem!

The catch part that "rotates" around the catch pin on the bootlid, sounds like its not being actuated by the solenoid. So you bootlid is trapped shut. Solenoid pulls the same mechanism that's connected to the "wire", that rotates the catch (or not as the case may be)

Time to get inventive ! The only way I can think of will require the car up on ramps, a good strong cup of tea, some very long socket extension bars and a 13mm socket, and a dose of good luck.

Its a real long shot. If you are still stuck then I could PM you my idea.

I had the same problem last year. Some of the mecanism is made of plastic so it snapped. I took the two speekers out behind the seats, that will give you access to the inside of the boot, place a lead lamp inside and get yourself a racet with a very long extension bit I think it was a 13 mm socket. The mecanism is holden in with 2 bolts I think. Shouldn't take you more than 10 min.

I once fitted the boot lock to my mgb 90 deg out and it wouldnt open. it was a nice shiny new one to replace the rusty old one and I ended up drilling the lock.

got another new shiny one. fitted it

I got inside boot to make sure it was working and then my dad shut it with me in just in case.....
