hello

Keeping my fingers crossed today as the Tuscan is at HHC. poor oil consuption plus some flat spots, (the flat spots are worring me) but hopefully some mineral oil should sort it out as they suspect that the oil is running too thin. They are also testing for any airflow problems.
I am obviously thinking the worst can anyone re-assure me that its going to be ok?
The car had a re-build 7k ago and has been high oil consumption ever since, previous owner took it to chris neil who has allready suggested mineral oil, so now we will find out. should be ready mid aft, or in 10 weeks if a rebuild is needed.

Can't offer any technical comments, but I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that it's an oil problem.

I believe they all use oil... I top mine up with nearly a litre a month (I use it nearly everyday).

Got the car back at it is still misfiring, I thought it was flat spots but was wrong. Bad news is that HHC think that it has worn valve seals and a blown piston ring. I have not seen any drop in performance.
Mat c, my car is using a litre every 200 miles or so. Oil is supposed to be a litre every 750 miles, I think. HHC are phoning Paul Forest at blackpool to get recomendations of what to do. Hopefully the work should be carried out under warranty, if not i am going to have to sell my body and duck the flying plates from Steph.

Thats a lot of oil!! If you are using that much, then that is definitley a piston ring. I don't think a worn valve seal would even let that much through. Unfortunately I think you need to prepare for a rebuild (and prepare yourself for Steph!!).

It will be worth asking them to check the state of the cylinder walls as well... these could be contributing too.

Should be covered but watch them as anything else (gaskets, plug leads, the rest of the rings etc) that needs replacing as part of the job they will refuse to pay for.

What ever they pay for should save you an ear bashing from her majesty

As I have been summoned from my Guinness bottle by T88CAN I would just like to say I'm sorry for your troubles Gr4eme - that's a bad knock - hope your warrantee covers it for you.

PS It's those Speed Sixers in denial that start me off.

And it's people who have never owned a Speed Six yet insist on slagging it off that get me started...

Give it a rest jigs - stop pretending you are the fountain of all knowledge relating to Speed Six engines. I know you can't bear to contemplate it, but there are many of us out here enjoying trouble-free six cylinder fun. Why do you find it so hard to acknowledge? Schadenfreude, perhaps?

I've not heard back from HHC with regard to what Blackpool want to do about the car.
Its all speculation at the minute, as to what the problem is until its stripped, but HHC still think blown piston ring.

It does seem a little funny to me that ever since the finger followers were done last june the engine started to drink oil like petrol.
Could TVR have made a mistake when rebuilding?
If so, then the warranty with the re-build should cover it. (or am i dreaming)
Thanks for all the concern

Gr4eme - don't leave it to chance - get their approval before any work is done.
Cacatous - you don't need to own a Rottweiller to know to keep your distance from one.
nubbin - try to remember this one the next time a newbie asks for advice - you wouldn't want to mislead anyone.
It's strange that even when I sympathise with a duff Speed Six owner you anal-types get wound up - grow up kiddies.

Its strange that when you offer sympathy to an owner, that you take a pot shot at others.

No, to misrepresent the qualities of the Speed Six engine would be terribly childish, wouldn't it? Not that you would....

Went to take the Tuscan in for a service yesterday and guess what a flat battery. Managed to jump start it even though the leads wouldn't work! I think the port might be bust, but managed by taking the battery panel off and turning the wheel round and using a small headed set of leads.
Got there to find a lovely dark metallic grey Tuscan, anyone here?
Was very impressed by the service and the guy wasn't best pleased with TVR power as they can't do anything till next week as someone is on holiday. He has told them to pick it up and sort it no questions asked, and get it right. Couldn't ask for more really. They are servicing the car minus engine, as its already had the oil change last week, and TVR power are going to do the rest, fingers crossed the warranty should do what it says on the tin, and we will all be happy. I also found there labour charges reasonable £35 per hour, my friend has a VW corrado and they charge £80!!!

I agree with your comments on HHC I have always been very impressed with them. Hope you get the motor sorted quickly

Are we really saying that HHC (Harrogate)only charge £35 per hour labour?
