Chroming alloy where temperatures vary i have found leads to cracks and a crazing efect in the finish some, thing to do with expantion rates i think. Speak to the platers first.
I tried it on a few motorcycle engine side casings, when i was a young school boy.
best to Mirror polish, just hard work with the Duraglit to keep em right. I use to spend hours polishing in my dinner hours when "Mogga" was kicking a football round the playground.(look where it got him)
I have better things to do with my time now can`t even be botherd to wash a car.
Even if i had a clear purspex bonet id paint it and airbrush/photo/wrap the contents engine bay on it.

I would love one airbrushed with a union jack...sadly no one would see it as its a bugger to get the bonnet off.
