Speedo Sender Issue

I've just fitted a new speedo sender after the previous one died on me. I've fitted a Steve Heath one and I've got an issue that may or may not be specific to his...I've e-mail Steve so no doubt he will be in touch, but thought I would post here to see if this is a generic problem anyone has had with the standard part...

The sender is reliable up to around 35 - 40mph...signal is steady and speedo readout accurate. However above this speed the signal is no longer steady and despite some enthusiastic attempts I can't register anything over an unsteady 50-something mph.

Anyone had similar issues?
