I've noticed recently that when I accelerate in 3rd (and this probably also applies to 2nd and 4th) things go fine until I hit 5300 or 5400 rpm, then the pull just dies - I change up, and get acceleration again, but surely there must be something wrong for the torque to just evaporate even before the coloured lights go on!

Can anyone explain this? (The car is a 4.0l 2002 reg having done 8000 miles)
Thanks

Hi

Sounds like mine, If its drinking oil like petrol you have a problem. If oil consumption is ok then i think it could be a misfire.

Bet it's the throttle bodies.

It shouldn't stop pulling at all until the rev limiter kicks in.

It will stop pulling if the crankcase can't breathe... blocked cam cover breather? Has the throttle cable stretched so throttles aren't fully opening?
Could be a number of things.
