I went into the garage today and there was a strong smell of petrol. I drove the car yesterday and parked it in the garage yesterday evening, no different from normal.

I've checked under the car and there is no sign of a leak anywhere. It's obviously been warm today and the car has been in the garage all day but can't see any reason for the strong smell.

Any ideas??

I had this happen a few times on my old mk1 Tuscan and it was - if memory serves - usually related to a cracked petrol feed pipe or seal problem on the tank. I can't remember the exact details, but sounds familiar.

REPLACE any rubber fuel lines, they don't last long under a hot TVR bonnet. Took me three hours at the side of the road to do one that I missed on the Griff the other week. Fuel mist spraying onto the manifold, need I say more? yikes

also check the boot carefully, I had this for a while and couldn't get to the bottom of where the petrol was coming from.

It turned out to be a crack in the fuel tank and was leaking fuel into the boot. The crack/split was where the fuel breather connects to the tank and is apparently quite common as the fuel breather weld provides mechanical mounting point for the tank.
This is on the RHS of the boot as you look into the boot. I noticed a slightly damp boot carpet at the bottom RHS of the boot.

This could have been quite bad had it not been found in time. I had mine bravely welded back together which was good as replacement tanks are hard to come by and prove to be quite pricey.

Also check the vent pipe from the carbon canister behind the o/s headlight. The pipe stick,s down out of the wing to atmosphere.
