I want to tell you a story. A story about a man and his car, and an epic journey.

The man is me. The car is a Tuscan 01. And the journey is me trying to get into work this morning.

I drive 15miles to get in, with nothing untowards to report apart from heavy traffic, when about a mile from the office, the stick starts getting really grumpy about finding gear, and just as I'm turning into my car parking space, the gearstick just basically refuses to get into any gear at all, apart from reverse - and it does that last one very crunchily indeed.

When it does get manhandled into gear, it lurches forward even with the clutch fully depressed.

What's the deal with that? I had a quick Barry Took under the car, and couldn't see any clutch fluid. I'm pondering it's either that or the slave or something, but I won't know for sure until I call out the boys in orange, (for the 3rd time in a week for completely unrelated calls) and see what happens. At least if it's true about things coming in 3s, this should be my last shenanigan for a while...

This story has been rated U, for the lack of nudity, violence or bad language. Apart from when I had to push the car the last 5ft into the parking space.

Which is slightly uphill.

Then I might have sworn a bit.

Have a gander at the bracket located behind the clutch pedal. From memory, its a plastic bush that could be prone to failure. If so, the clutch biting point then moves beyond the travel of the pedal due to the bush not doing its job... which it seems is what has happened to yours. The clutch its self sohuldn't breakdown so quickly (unless you hear rattling of bits in the housing..). If so, its cheap and quick for the dealer to fix.

Best idea I can think of...

Thanks Matt. I'll mention this possibility to the RAC and hopefully they'll be able to do it roadside.
