What sort of Oil consumption is normal for the straight Six. I understand that this varies hugely according to how you drive it but assume minimal oil consumption with steady motorway driving but during playtime....?

I am currently checking each and every drive, mostly motorway miles and barely using a drop.

Do you top up down the centre tube of the Oil filler or can it go down either?

What oils do people recommend, currently using Mobil 1.

Thanks,

Tom

Mobil 1 15W50.
My consumption varies quite a bit but on average about a litre per 1000 miles.

None, since the rebuild. It's quite nerve racking at first.

I had a bottom end rebuild at the end of 2008 and since then have covered almost 10'000 miles, barring oil changes at services I've not had to put a drop in despite checking once a week. I use 10/40 Shell Helix BTW.

Mine uses very little, maybe 1/2 a litre in 3000 miles. I do drive it pretty gently though, which I think makes a difference - I've read they can use a fair but more on trackdays for example.

Will just add that Str8six use Mobil Synt S, which from searching on the internet is not *fully* synthetic (whatever that means!). I think TVR Power also advise semi-synthetic instead of fully, so that makes 2 Speed6 engine experts who don't go for fully synthetic oil.
