Hi there,

I own a Red Rose Tuscan and it's time for a bottom end rebuild came...unfortunally... :-(( Because my cranksaft was benched and couldn't be fixed i ordered a new one. When i receive it i realised that it was a cast crankshaft and was different from the one i have which appears to be a billet one.Does anyone know if the Red Rose was fitted with a billet one as standard(there is a rumour about it)?
Also because as far as i know there is noone who can provide me with a similar(billet) one, either new or used,i am open to suggestions either about fitting the cast one or any other idea... :-((((

Forgot to say that Racing Green has developed a billet Crankshaft for all Speed 6 engines but the price is around 2300 pounds......so....

Hi,
when I had my engine rebuilt including a new crankshaft earlier this year, I learned that TVR has used both, billet crankshafts and casted shafts made in India - depending what was cheap, on stock and available... I was also told that the Indian version could run out of shape when racing and/or (over)heating the engine.
I don't think that TVR made any difference between RR and standard at the time when putting smash a Speed Six engine together...
TVR Power, Str8Six, or Racing Green should probably be the right guys to help you further

I purchase mine from TVR Power, and is a casted one,2nd hand but double checked(by then and me). I did not ask them about the origin of the crankshaft but it is certainly manufactured in a different way than mine. In adittion, which sounds strange, the one i purchase, despite beeen casted, is 3kg lighter than the one i had.
Both TVR Power and Racing Green sell as standard the casted on(like the one i bought) and i know that Racing Green has developed a new one which is a CNC Billet cranksaft but the price is around 2300 pounds. You can have a look at: (http://www.thetvrshop.com/TVR/News/62.htm),(http://www.thetvrshop.com/TVR/Parts_details/TVR%20E6104%204.0%20RG/c|/Tuscan.htm)

Well, the 4,3 l crank from Powers is also billet steel. I am not a metallurgy expert, but probably these are more robust and durable then, hence the higher price.
Anyway, I don't think there is/was any difference between Standard and RedRose. Mine is a 2004 "S" and Blackpool had fitted an Indian cast crank...

hmm...on the other hand, there might not be such a difference between the two of them...at least for normal and no racing use.But how can someone understand if the cranksfaft is an Indian or Uk one?

I thought it was the very early engines that had billet steel cranks, ie the ones put together by Al Melling's co.

my early red rose has a steel crank. Red Rose's were supposed to have steel cranks and double valve springs, but of course we all know TVR put in what was around at the time...
