Engine Rebuild advice please
Discussion
I have a 2001 tuscan. I had a recent misfire which was due to there being oil on the plugs. The car smokes alot out the exhaust and is using up alot of oil. The car had a factory rebuild in september 2002 at 8000 miles. It has currently 26000 on the clock. I was told the car would need a rebuild soon, is this likly to be just a top end rebuild? any idea what the costs are? thanks.
Not sure exactly what you will need, but the TVR Power website gives an idea of what may need to be done and a price.
I might be joining you soon if my rattle proves to be engine related.
Full rebuild anything from £5500- £9000 ouch!!! depends on what needs done TBH. Engine only £5500 but if you get a clutch bushes upgrade Cams(dulfords) improved oil ways (dulfords) then the price can start to creep up, even more if you go for a 4.3 or 4.5 conversion from TVR Power but you will have a strong engine that seems to be reliable and FAST, going by those who have had it done.
There is also an LS option from Steve Heath and Topcats again £8500- £12000 ouch x2, depends on what gets done..
TVR Power
Dulfords
ST8six
Seem to be the best options for SP6 rebuilds in my opinion........not that it counts for much!!

A top end rebuild only may be OK...but get an expert opinion, the trouble is that you may also have finger follower / cam wear which will have resulted in debris being pushed through the engine, or the piston rings may also be passing oil etc etc...its really difficult to make a judgement without half stripping the engine anyway.
Engine builders that i would use have already been listed, i wouldnt use anyone else, particularly those who share a similar name to that famous British Racing colour

Get yourself up to Henley. Jason at STR8SIX will do a leak down test on each of the cylinders, then give you an honest opinion as to the options available to you. Trust me, trust Jason.Gassing Station | Tuscan | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
