Anybody know this car?

Hi all,

Went to Kerridges on Saturday to look at a Tuscan.

This one in fact.

It drove superbly, and I was smitten, to say the least.

My 'problem' is the mileage, 10,000.

Is that just too low?

The car rang sweetly, had spot on oil pressure and they were offering to get the tappets checked before purchase.

Car comes with a years sort of warranty, but would not cover if the engine needed a re-build as that is classed as 'wear and tear' however, they were adamant they would not leave someone high and dry.

So, opinions?

As a little aside, Kerridges are/were dealers for TVR, Noble and MG - was thinking of asking if they were thinking of taking on any other marques, just as a heads up...

I dont know the car but the low millage wouldn't put me of buying it. If it has been serviced regularly and chassis is in good condition and as you said it drove well with good oil pressure I wouldn't be too concerned.
The prices on Tuscans (good ones) seem to be holding up to , I sold my 2001 Tuscan in Sept 06 for £18,000 and they are still selling for that kind of money today!!

I bought my 03 plate 9 months ago with 3700 miles on it car had been dry stored and you can tell.
You wil get a 3 month warranty at least so any problems should have shown up by then.

Not sure I will.

SOR features somewhere in this deal - I need to check the fine points.

Saying that, it would only happen if the trade is with the Dealer, not via, if that makes sense?

Living abroad most of the year, and certainly for the 3-6 months after purchase the three month 'fit for purpose' argument loses some impact if I have to shell out to get the car recovered from Luxembourg to the UK...

I hate decisions like this!

At least the test confirmed two things.

1) I want a TVR Tuscan

2) I want a TVR Tuscan, alot.

i bought mine for the same money 3 years ago @ 9400 miles, running sweet and healthy, popped a shim at just under 10k and was rebuild time, would recomend an inspection if the dealer will allow (cam cover removed)this will show up things like scores on the followers, cam lobes and also available adjustment on the valves as they are prone to stretching

Thought i had been stiched up but was informed that once the hardened coating on the followers wears through (IF its a bad one) its only about 50 miles before it all goes a bit pete tong.

lovley car but you could also find the same with a rebuild for the same money, not wanting to put you off at all, and all IMHO for what its worth.

Comments are really backing up my concerns.

That this is top money for the unknown.

But, it is the right colour, has the right extras and is in pristine condition.

Think I'll go sit in a darkened room and contemplate things.

Mine has over 40,000 miles. Covered 14,000 trouble free miles in a year and a half. Car had engine rebuild prior to purchase. Would not buy one without rebuild especially for price of advertised car.

I think the rules are that if you pay the dealer and get a receipt from the dealer, he has to honour his obligation under the sale of goods act. I dont think the fact he is selling it sale or return comes into it, you are transacting with him, he is transacting with the seller, they are separate are they not?

In answer to your question, i would suggest that you get the engine inspecteed, which will probably involve cam covers off to check for wear. if that checks out its normal stuff, check service history, maintenance history etc etc. The mileage itself wouldnt put me off.

Dealer has offered to complete a 12k service and tappet/shim inspection prior to sale.

If they do not like the results (Hmmmmmmm, biased opinion?) then the car goes back to the seller.

Or, source another example.

I must say I got on really well with the guy I dealt with, although the chap who accompanied me on the test drive was less personable (until a brief conversation about his gorgeous MGC) and I am sure I saw you dealing with him (Steve).

More considering...

Look's like a great example, would read the small print carefully and check out the warranty upper claim's limit, they can vary from a paltry £1k to 'unlimited' at 18k not cheap but is peak Tiv season for selling!

If the warranty company fail's to cough up usually the garage will agree to a compromise for any shortfall to keep the customer happy, good luck, get a deposit down!

Phwoar! Lovely car; I can see why you're tempted, but that's an awful lot for a 2001 Tuscan (even with low mileage)!

However, as is the way with these cars it's a personal choice; if this is the car for you, good luck and happy Tivving!

If not, keep hunting; the right car will come along and you will become obsessed!

Not mine im afraid. Mine is safely tucked up in the garage at the moment. Having said that mine is virtually identical, except mine is an S so easy mistake to make.

I also purchased from Kerridges, in December last year, and so far they have been brilliant. Ive not had to make a claim yet under the warranty provided but from experience with these guys (2 TVR's so far plus a brother who is about to purchase his second from them)they do look after their customers.

The actual car in question looks lovely though; a brilliant interior / exterior colour combo.

I personally would not buy a car without a post 2005 rebuild unless you have a significant pot set aside 'just in case'

I know of a lovely post 2005 TVR Power rebuilt one for significantly less that that.....

I was looking at it on the classifieds.

Problem with being based abroad is that it is much easier to deal with a dealer.

As much as that pains in terms of cost...
