Ayup Folks,
taxi driver stopped next to me the other day and told me that my reverse light was coming on when I was travelling normally down the road. I assume there's some monkey business going on with the switch which is next to the gearstick.
Any advice for centre console removal (assume this is how I get into the switch)?

Hello J -
Yes, you are in right place to adjust switch.
I recently replaced the crappy vinyl for real leather on the handbrake lever and gearstick – it’s easy to take the centre console off just:
1. Remove screw underneath rear air vent
2. Remove 2 screws either side at front
3. Lift console from back disconnecting the hose for the rear vent
4. Lift more and unplug the 2 x connectors for the window switches
5. Lift even more and finally disconnect the bundle plug for the cigarette lighter and aircon.
Just be careful of the connectors to the windows and aircon/ciggie lighter, these should all be unplugged – you can lift without but best not to chance it.

Yes, you are in right place to adjust switch.

Had the same problem with the reversing light flickering especially between 4th and 5th gear. The bolt locking the reversing light bracket to the gear level was missing so the switch would occasionally be hit at the wrong times. 
As above, remove the centre console and you will see the switch next to the gear level. Replace the bolt if missing and align to make sure it comes on at the right time.

Thanks to all for the valuable advice on disassembly.
Turns out (eek!) that the reverse switch was being activated in 3/4/5 (& R!). Some encouragement to put the switch back in the appropriate position fixed the issue.
Now I've had it apart I can see how the heat has been crumbling spongy bits and gaiters. Is this where people may have been adding extra heat shielding? (e.g GV manual on the Sag?)
Also, it doesn't take much too-ing and fro-ing for the self tapped holes for the console to become too big for the original screws, it seems. :|
Always interesting taking TVR panels off and seeing what lurks beneath...
