Tuscan long-term storage...

I've been trying to sell my Tuscan 2 convertible for a while now (with Fernhursts) but there doesn't seem much interest. I know they've priced the car at top whack (£36k), but even if we reduced the price, the guys there don't think there would be many takers...

I'm selling for many reasons (a) we don't have any proper parking where we now live, having moved back to London (b) my wife is expecting our first child in 5 weeks, so not likely to be any chance to drive the car over the next few months/years(!) (c) driving the car in London is rubbish anyway...

But, since there don't seem to be any buyers for now, I was thinking that another option could be to put the car into long-term storage somewhere, and just keep it for a few years until I'm able to use it again. Has anybody done this with a TVR - and if so, what does recommissioning involve when I want to take the car out of storage - would it be a bit naive to do this with a Speed 6? I assume brakes and suspension would seize up, tyres go off, so it would be a pretty major bill to get it going again? Would the engine be ok after, say, 5-8 years?

I guess there must be a few of the last Griff 500s in store, but does anybody have any ideas on how feasible this would be - and how expensive the recommissioning would be?

I'd be really sad to lock the car up for a few years, as I really love to see cars being used, not locked in a museum, but this is looking like one option where at least I'd be able to keep the car.

If you are not selling it, then why not rent an indoor parking space in London? That way your car will be safe and you'll still be able enjoy it. The cost will of course depend on the area, but if required you could just go further afield and get a little folding bike. Surely making a cycle journey once in a while to pick up your car is better than not driving it at all? Just a thought...

You can store it in my garage (in Manchester) for free indefinitely. I'll even take it out every now and then to ensure it doesn't sieze up because I'm nice like that.

How many low milage Tuscans are still around in 2015? More than one?

Thanks for the answers. Finding a space to store the car isn't difficult - I'm more concerned with what will be needed to recommission the car in a few years - anybody done this with a Speed 6?

And yes - I'm sure it would sell at a price - I could put it in an auction next week and get £15k for it...

I have one with only 11.2 miles on it, (yes the point is in the correct place,)
sat next to 3 other 2 seater sports cars that i use verry little. one has only done 20 miles in 15 years,tyres,bushes etc looked ok when i took her for test 2 yrs ago even the fuel was ok,

I expect some collectors will have other Tuscan and TVR models stashed for a rainy day

Im just a horder, i see a car or bike buy it and rareley get round to selling the old one,get board quickley then see somethimg else it starts again.
Mind you sold my rolls,elese and a unimog since christmas, the slk, merlin, and z4mc, posibly the tuscan will have to go soon.oh and the navara needs replacing with a newer one soon..As i have my eyes on an airoplane and need the space in the toy box

Hi rejn,

I was up at Powers a few weeks back and Dom had a mk1 Tuscan that had been laid up, (and badly I might add, in a barn), for a few years. I was having a service and an MOT.

Other than the obvious surface corrosions on some of the underside where it had been badly stored, it was in remarkably good form. I don't think anything major had affected it either. I'm sure they could give you some sound advice on how to store it responsibly.

Hi,

You need a word with Graham Varley. He fills the engine with oil from what I know, he has put something into the engine bay which gives him the ability to do so. This would keep the engine in tiptop condition the only thing you woudl then need to do is sort out the hubs and moving parts but if you store it in the right place then they will do that for you?

Probily the sane reason i had 3 superbikes MV Agusta,Buell firebolt and z 1000, sat in the garage and hadnt done 50 combined miles on them in 3 years. (but get my fun playing with an international road racing team)

I still have my Beamish suzuki with 1300 miles on it, i baught that back in 1979.

There is a choice of Merk SLK, BMW Z4M Coupa on the drive and Navara and the Vanquish Parked in the street, although have to borrow my Octavia vrs back of mum if i need a boot
